I mean.. isn't that what you just did by referring to them both as oppression?Originally posted by Copelius View PostI am with JL and DAB on this one. Anyone comparing the oppression from 1 year of Trump 2.0 to the oppression from 45 years and 2 generations of supreme ayatollahs has really no concept of reality.

You could just admit that in some instances you find violent protests to be okay. That is not a controversial statement. Hell, the U S of A had to go through a very violent protest period before we gained our freedom.Originally posted by dabrockster View Post
Your argument is not only flawed but beyond stupid. I suggest you lirk for another attempt to find something to catch me in that is not consistent as this one makes you look pretty foolish.

This is reducto ad absurdum Dude. I am with LVA on this one - no one is making that equivalency. But if the two regimes use similar tactics, how is it problematic to point that out?Originally posted by Copelius View PostI am with JL and DAB on this one. He very cleared called out DB for supporting Iranian protestors even when they break the law while not supporting US protestors when they break the law. That criticism only has legitimacy if the situations in the two countries are somewhat comparable. I am not sure why you think there needs to be a 1 to 1 equivalence before a comparison can be made. DB's claims that any protest that isn't entirely peaceful is illegitimate, while also supporting the Iranian people's right to resort to violence when necessary against an oppressive regime, seems very hypocritical.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

The situations do not need to be on all fours before any comparisons can be made. To suggest otherwise seems intellectually inconsistent at best.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Shall we compare the shooting in Minnesota to the holocaust? I mean, the situations do not need to be on all fours before any comparisons can be made. Amirite?Originally posted by falafel View Post

It would really depend on the comparison (and yes I doubt there are many valid/useful ones in this case), but of course your attempt here is to make it come kind of equivalency and ignore any valid comparisons.

Falafel: You cannot be serious in defending this. To try and place both the protests here in America and those in Iran are equal in correlation to each govt (Stating America and Iran are the same) and use it to state I am being inconsistent is a faulty argument.
If you cannot see Allen was just being a dick in an attempt to call me out as being hypocritical as I support Iran protests and not American protestors then you are not really looking at his statement in the right context.
You acting there does not need to be a 1:1 comparison of my opinion on the protests here and in Iran. You are wrong. My opinion and support of Iran is fully based on a regime that has tortured, killed, hanged, and continues to do this for the past 40/50 years.

Do you think there is any legitimacy to someone supporting the ongoing revolution in Iran while simultaneously believing that protestors in the United States should generally obey the law?Originally posted by beefytee View Post
