I imagine that will have a bigger impact on the rest of the world, such as China, which might not go over so well. Russia might like it though.

I suppose I take it as a given that the US would send in the Navy to keep it open a la 1987. That's probably not a given with the current administration. But if we do, we will likely lose sailors along the way.

Is it just me or is anyone else bemused by people (e.g. AOC) talking about how the Iran strike was a constitutional violation and impeachable offense; but those same people were silent when the USA struck Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and Pakistan when their party was in the White House?

Ha I thought the same thing. But then I also thought they probably nominated him to get better treatment than India in their conflict, so maybe they really weren't that impressed with his peacemaking skills.

I find it normal, so not really bemusing. It’s normal politics to go after the other party when they do the same things that your party does…but that’s because your party made the correct choice when they did it and the other party was incorrect when they did it.

It's because Trump was watching Fox News, which was airing wall-to-wall glowing praise about Israel's strikes on Iran. He saw that, thought that striking Iran resulted in great press, and wanted in on the action. Fox News was also airing guest after guest urging Trump to get more involved. So now suddenly "everyone" was urging him to get more involved.

Or it could be...follow this really complex idea for a bit....that Israel decimated their external ring of protection creating a situation of minimal risk for the US to send in B-2s to drop MOABs on their nuclear facilities thus significantly delaying their march to having a nuclear bomb.

It could be the risk/reward situation totally tilting to US favor, or it could have been what you described.

The same NYT LVAllen is quoting also issued an episode of The Daily today where they outlined how this was lowest risk scenario the U.S. has seen in the last 5 Presidents.

I read a Democrat leader saying: "Donald Trump is to blame for everything negative that follows from this bombing." Given Iran's fragile state and Israel's success so far I thought that the probability that this turns out well for the US, at least in some short term perspective which is all politicians think about, is probably higher than the probability this turns out bad for the US in the short term. Not likely the Democrats can pull off the patented Michael Scott "I want all the credit for the good with no blame if things go wrong" approach to executive leadership. But when tribalism is king I guess the enemy of my enemy is my friend is to tempting to grasp onto even if the enemy of your enemy is a real son of a bitch.
