I don't know that a lot of the hardest core Trumpers have a lot in 401k type accounts -- the mostly white, blue collar types. That seems to be the core demo of his most ardent supporters. More politically moderate, higher SES folks who voted for him this time but not in 2020 yes will be pissed.

It'll be interesting to watch. The market's reaction right now is obviously directly related to the tariffs and the uncertainty Trump is dumping on the economy. This is no "market correction" from the Biden years. Thankfully I've got another 15 years to go to retirement...

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

            Partly, yes.

I can't tell if you are joking. No, they are not partly responsible for his economic policies.

Not joking. Woke democrats are partly responsible for Trump getting reelected. I have no idea why it is so hard for you to accept that.

Kamala is considering running for California governor. She is so bad, she could be the only thing to get one of those psycho maga people elected in california.

Among the top five most popular executive orders, three had to do with gender — including a block on transgender women participating in women’s sports, another declaring the federal government would only recognize two sexes in place of gender, and one that ends federal coverage of transgender treatments for minors.

There are echoes in these findings of ads run by the Trump campaign in the final weeks of the 2024 presidential campaign that some pundits say put Trump ahead of his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris. One of the ads describes how Harris supported publicly-funded transgender surgery for prisoners, and ends with the line, “Kamala Harris is for they/them, President Trump is for you.”

“This one ad may have won Donald Trump the election,” former CNN commentator Chris Cillizza wrote on his substack.

They are not responsible for Trump's actions. When I've pointed that out before you've pushed back and asserted that people don't believe that.
They are not responsible for his tariffs.
It doesn't matter who the democrats would've selected. There is legitimacy to criticizing some democrats for hyper polically correct bs, but Trump and MAGA are to blame for Trump.
Full stop. No need to water down the blame for how awful he is. The Republicans were not forced to run a candidate this shitty 3 times, let alone after a coup attempt. If that isn't a deal breaker, nothing is.

Their nonsense is partly responsible for Trump getting reelected, which now allows him to do so much damage to the country. This is very simple logic.

Sorry Frank, I love you, but if Dems don't shift the rhetoric away from identity politics and some of the wacky stances that are far from mainstream that they presently seem to prioritize instead of their bread-and-butter (basically most of the stuff that Bernie Sanders touched on in his rebuttal to Trumps speech this week), they are gonna have a hard time in 4 years, I think.

Maybe Trump will so royally screw stuff up that the swing-voting public swings back to a dem candidate next presidential cycle out of pure desperation (kind of like they did for Trump this cycle), but right now I am not seeing Dems letting go of the stuff that is sinking their ship. I say this as a person who is absolutely a 50/50 swing voter in presidential elections and never once in 3 chances voted for Trump. I actually really want to rag on Trump, but the psychosis on the left about just hating him so fervently no matter what and calling him Hitler and a fascist at every turn, has the contrarian in me sort of wanting to give him a chance and see what he does. I am finding myself a product of exactly what JL is describing to you.

You summed me up very well. I feel the same way you do.

                              • Yesterday Gavin Newsome came out strongly against women in men's sports and he is taking heat for it from fellow democrats. Imaging excoriating a politician for aligning with 80% of the American public. These people are idiots.
