Probably mean Trump was able to refrain from accusing Newsom of being part of some hoax.

From your vantage point as a fake-Libertarian I’d to know what you think about how the government should manage this crisis.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

      • I’m semi surprised Trump hasn’t used Covid-19 as another excuse for a boarder wall push. But looking at the number cases in Mexico vs US, maybe Mexico really will pay for the wall.

          • Interesting. Thiessen has been an avid Trump apologist.

So, how was that speech produced? This is a disturbing level of incompetance in the face of a national crisis.

Ten minutes at the teleprompter: Inside Trump’s failed attempt to calm coronavirus fears

The speech itself was rushed. After weeks of playing down the coronavirus’s threat to the United States, Trump was reluctant to appreciate the full scope of the crisis on his hands. But with the markets in free fall, he decided early Wednesday that he wanted to give the televised speech that night, administration officials said. This startled some of his aides and set off a frantic scramble to arrange airtime on television networks, iron out logistics for his delivery and prepare a draft of what he would say, the officials said.

            . . . . . . .

The speech was largely written by Kushner and senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, who were still making tweaks to the text until moments before Trump delivered it, according to people familiar with the process. Thirty minutes before Trump appeared live on camera, a final draft of his remarks still had not circulated widely within the White House, one of those people said. And senior health experts in the administration did not review a final draft of the remarks, according to a senior administration official.

The fact that Trump's speech was written by Kushner and Miller, and was not reviewed by lots of other senior staff, is astonishing (and kind of funny).

That he turned to Miller to write it boggles the mind. These people live in a galaxy far, far away and a long time ago. And Kushner is such a lightweight.

Thiessen appears to believe that Trump stayed on script and the mistakes and tone were in the draft, a perfect transcript.

                      • i don't know how trump wins in november . the great irony is that of all the dumb shit for which he's responsible, something that is truly not his fault will kill his reelection.

                        • Coronavirus pandemic fully exposes how horrible trump is as POTUS. And it will probably kill his reelection.

Taken together, this is a massive failure in leadership that stems from a massive defect in character. Trump is such a habitual liar that he is incapable of being honest, even when being honest would serve his interests. He is so impulsive, shortsighted, and undisciplined that he is unable to plan or even think beyond the moment. He is such a divisive and polarizing figure that he long ago lost the ability to unite the nation under any circumstances and for any cause. And he is so narcissistic and unreflective that he is completely incapable of learning from his mistakes. The president’s disordered personality makes him as ill-equipped to deal with a crisis as any president has ever been. With few exceptions, what Trump has said is not just useless; it is downright injurious.

The nation is recognizing this, treating him as a bystander “as school superintendents, sports commissioners, college presidents, governors and business owners across the country take it upon themselves to shut down much of American life without clear guidance from the president,” in the words of Peter Baker and Maggie Haberman of The New York Times.

Donald Trump is shrinking before our eyes.

The coronavirus is quite likely to be the Trump presidency’s inflection point, when everything changed, when the bluster and ignorance and shallowness of America’s 45th president became undeniable, an empirical reality, as indisputable as the laws of science or a mathematical equation.

                            • I'm sure it happens in most presidencies, but it's embarrassing how Pence lavishes praise on Trump for every decision that he most assuredly just rubber stamped. He is oleaginous.
