Ask my political leaders for that check. They'll arrange everything I'm sure... (as soon as the president gets Andrew Jackson off the wall of the Oval Office.... you understand how these things work, right? You've been very gracious and accommodating about Trump's process to this point.)"I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! Is there such a history? I am unaware of it. It is not mentioned here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereo...ican_AmericansOriginally posted by Commando View PostBecause of the history of black men being called 'neanderthals' etc because of their physical features e.g. wide nose, etc.
There was clearly a history of calling blacks sAvages and primitives, but that was not equivalent to cavemen in my mind.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

It's a New Yorker article so ...Originally posted by creekster View Postthe thread that is quarantined is identified as being quarantined for the following reason:

The post that was deleted was deleted for the following reason:

So that seems fairly inconclusive to me.
Here is the thing: Al Green is pretty ugly. I do not think the meme is per se racist and I think a comparison to a caveman is not necessarily racist. Even so, it probably isn't the best thing to compare him to a caveman, but it also is not worth nearly as many pixels as have been spent here arguing about racist intent. And, either way, Reddit moderation policies are likely never a good basis to decide this issue.

"Which Web sites get the most traffic? According to the ranking service Alexa, the top three sites in the United States, as of this writing, are Google, YouTube, and Facebook. (Porn, somewhat hearteningly, doesn’t crack the top ten.) The rankings don’t reflect everything—the dark Web, the nouveau-riche recluses harvesting bitcoin—but, for the most part, people online go where you’d expect them to go. The only truly surprising entry, in fourth place, is Reddit, whose astronomical popularity seems at odds with the fact that many Americans have only vaguely heard of the site and have no real understanding of what it is. A link aggregator? A microblogging platform? A social network?"

Bro. You're totally missing out on the chance to call Trump a "czar-baby!"Originally posted by Commando View PostI know that saying 'Tar Baby' is a no-no as well... and I don't think it's because of Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby-- I think that Tar Baby might have been an actual common racial slur in the South in the last 150 years...
I can't confirm that, it's just kind of the sense I get since people freaked out when Mitt evoked 'tar-baby' years ago.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the words "Al Green" do not appear in that article.Originally posted by tooblue View PostIt's a New Yorker article so ...

No, they do not, but using reddit and it's moderation policies as a barometer on this issue is a good place to start more carefully considering the issue. It is, according to the article, the fourth most visited site in the United States.Originally posted by creekster View PostPerhaps not surprisingly, the words "Al Green" do not appear in that article.

So, we can agree the meme or visual in the meme invites loaded questions, pushing hidden agendas etc. that could certainly include racists agendas.
The meme bothers me, but no worries I'll walk away.

This is correct. I was thinking Pelosi didn't want to run into that mess of thorns and bramble, potentially injuring the Dem's chances in the next election. I wasn't trying to be racist (again?) when I used the term. As for tar baby, I have to admit - impeachment is one of those things that would stick to her and be very difficult to rid herself of if she were to initiate proceedings. So I suppose if I wanted to be more racist in my comments I could've used tar baby instead.Originally posted by creekster View PostBriar patches are thickets where briar plants grow. Briar plants have thorns on them and are a tangled mess that are difficult or impossible to get through without some sort of injury. SO, my guess is that when he said briar patch he meant that and not tar baby.
Know what - I'm not going to use reddit to define this stuff - and in case you were curious, I'm not likely to use Youtube, Google, or Facebook (which all three scored even higher!) as authorities on this topic either. (That said - I reserve the right to use Google to search out definitions of folks that I might actually trust. But that's different.)Originally posted by tooblue View PostNo, they do not, but using reddit and it's moderation policies as a barometer on this issue is a good place to start more carefully considering the issue. That's the thing- the briar patch would allow Dems to escape any repercussions, as rabbits apparently roam at will in the briar patch, which is why Brer Rabbit was begging to be thrown there. Whereas the tar baby, once you engage with it, just sucks you in further and further and traps you, which is why I thought it a more apt metaphor. But it's your metaphor.Originally posted by Eddie View PostThis is correct. Yeah, the government needs to break Google and Facebook into a million pieces... Google alone shifted at least 2.6 million votes to Clinton:Originally posted by tooblue View PostIt's a New Yorker article so ...

But the rabbit can get through the briar patch because it lives there and so is very familiar with it. Pelosi and the democrats do not live there, 'there' being impeachment proceedings. Running into an unfamiliar briar patch results in injuries, even for a rabbit.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostThat's the thing- the briar patch would allow Dems to escape any repercussions, as rabbits apparently roam at will in the briar patch, which is why Brer Rabbit was begging to be thrown there. A tar baby, by contrast, traps you and gets all over you. But it is still tar. Pelosi and ilk will not be tarred by impeachment. Impeachment does not stick to them, rather, it injures their efforts to win other non-impeachment elections.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I'm done with tooblue. But social media companies don't care about free speech, especially lately. On the contrary. Nor do I necessarily think they should care. Their job is to keep the maximum number of people happy to make money. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
