Nice job by the Trump administration acting like an authoritarian regime assaulting the First Amendment in secret. No surprise. We knew who Trump was when elected.

I know, it's Trump and his justice dept., so it's expected and therefore ok, right? Nice touch even secretly grabbing phone data from Congressional members' families, including minors. Geez.

As we become more tribal corruption will flourish more and more. Tribalism will cause most of us to ignore corruption from our team and our constant screaming that anything our opponent does threatens democracy, is worse than Nixon or really is the end of the world causes most folks to tune out. Such an environment ripens more and more each day for corruption and abuse of power. The people are the check and they stop caring.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I do think the Republicans are overplaying their hand right now by a lot.

And it sounds like you're agreeing that this is probably corrupt.

There was a great deal about Trump that is/was corrupt. I am bothered by the Republican Senators disrupting efforts to subpoena/investigate the DOJ under Trump. A lot more bothered about Trump's DOJ than the "great threat" to Democracy on 06 Jan. I just don't think Trump going away is going to fix much.

Now as far as overplaying hands. That has been going on by both parties for a very long time, I am not any more bothered by Republicans overplaying their hand than I am in Democrats genuinely thinking they are in a position to make drastic changes. I just happen to agree with controlling federal government so I consider the Republicans gumming up everything the Democrats want to do a better deal than if the Democrats got their way.

What I mean by overplaying their hand is the assumption the Republicans are making that supporting the rioters or pretending it was just peaceful tourists in the Capitol, fake audits of the election, etc., is going to lead to independents flocking to vote them back into power. They can't win in swing districts by playing so hard toward the insane caucus but they're too delusional to recognize that. Or they do but think they have no choice because it's what Trump wants them to do.

Yep. Political science 101 -- the middle gets the votes. Normally you see candidates on either side crowding the middle for position to gobble the greatest margin in the middle. What we've seen is Trump's base trying to lock down the far right... uh ok. And we've seen the results this last election cycle of flouting bedrock principles of electoral common sense. Then the asshole has the nerve to act incredulous that he lost in such a decisive fashion.

During the democratic primaries, the candidates were doing their best to lock down the lunatic left.

Sounds like it won’t be a problem for the right then either.

Gee, you'd think. I'm not sure what the cult is going on there, but last I checked Jeb Bush was supposed to be the GOP nominee and Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz were never going to endlessly blow Donald Trump

Why is it that those in your tribe are so freaked out by the likes of Hillary and Kamala and Obama? Is it more a gender thing or a complexion thing?
