The Supreme Court doesn’t mean that endeavor is a lower standard than attempt. Indeed, attempt is a very general term can mean almost anything. This is the DOJ’s gloss, but look at the examples. There were specific undertakings that were demonstrably corrupt, like bribes. Did any of that sort of thing happen here; bribes, etc.?

Can I get my quarter back? Especially for the money spent on volume 2 of the report...

Vol 1 - Let's investigate this Russian collusion that the Dems claim gave Drumpf the win, the entire reason for this special council! Obama, Clinton, Clapper, etc. all told us there was lots of Russian collusion with the Drumpf compaign. Oh sh*t, there was no Russian collusion...

Vol 2 - OK, keep digging, dammit! Drumpf has to be guilty of something. Yeah, let's burn all that money the DoJ got from Manafort. There is nothing more important that money could be used for! "But Shouldn't we look into that BS Steele dossier and how the Dems paid an unregistered foreign agent to fabricate dirt on Drumpf?" No, dammit but get Peter Strzok reassigned before his text messages with his mistress DoJ lawyer become public. That sh*t will expose us as being biased. So what can we possibly charge Drumpf with? Come on, you guys, you have to have something!

Federal courts have expressly said the term "endeavor" in the obstruction statute is broader than the term "attempt." What do you think they meant by that?

Edit: I originally said the Supreme Court interpreted "endeavor" that way. I may have been wrong. It appears that's how lower circuit courts have interpreted it.

I think as it meant, as it said, an actual “effort” “to accomplish the evil purpose.”

First, I’m actually quoting the Supreme Court opinion. You’re quoting the DOJ website. I don’t see “broader” in the quotation from the Supreme Court. Nevertheless, the Supreme Court’s “effort to accomplish the evil purpose” formulation, you seem to recognize, is more than, a more rigorous standard, than “attempt.” Effort is not synonymous with attempt in common English usage. That should end our debate.

As for what is meant on that website by “broader”, it seems to be saying that “attempt” is a word that actually appears in other criminal statutes and is a defined term that opinions have dealt with, and the Supreme Court didn’t want those definitions and opinions to confuse the meaning of this statute. The Court wanted to get out from under those definitions and opinions.

Trump is used to "investing" in cool expensive stuff, and if it doesn't work out you can always declare bankruptcy and just not pay it back. I'm not sure he understands that the federal government doesn't exactly work that way - though I'm sure he also understands that he himself will never be held accountable for the debt.

I know I'm probably a racist too - but I got the impression that the meme Ted used wasn't about Black men. It was about that particular politician being "simple, unintelligent, under developed...etc."

Without having read the article - so maybe this is what it says...

There was a political commentator on the radio this morning talking about Mueller's testimony and what comes next. When asked about impeachment, the response was that Nancy isn't going to touch that with a 10 ft pole until/unless there is huge bi-partisan support. So locals can take the info from the Mueller testimony and report and try to drum up that support. But until/unless it happens, she sees impeachment as a political briar patch that would do more damage to the Dems next election than good.

I didn't call Ted a racist. I stated he is using a racist meme.

You can call any body dumb, regardless their race etc. But that meme is racist precisely because it perpetuates a demeaning stereotype that has existed in western culture for a very long time.

Are we really getting to a place where people can't discern that a visual no matter how well intended, or despite its humorous intent perpetuates a demeaning stereotype?

I'm probably a racist. I believe that the whitey should pay reparations to the decedents of the Native Americans and then get the hell off our lands!
