When the country nationalized everything, a lot of "stuff" owned by American companies was taken. I'm sure that is what he means but that wasn't public property.

Trump is looking for some kind of conquering success. Canada isn't happening. Neither is Greenland. Venezuela is it. Make up a bunch of nonsense about drugs, narcoterrorists, etc. to justify this silliness. Of course, he doesn't really want to do anything serious. He's just hoping Maduro will blink.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

May we assume he'll move next on Saudi Arabia? They nationalized multiple U.S oil company assets back in the '70s.

sort of like when Italy attacked Ethiopia or Argentina decided to move into the Falkland Islands. That's what dopey dictators do to show how macho they are.

I wouldn't say that they stole our oil, but I know of a number of oil companies that lost significant investments in Venezuela when the government decided to nationalize the oil industry. I think ConocoPhillips lost over $10 billion, which they continue to try to recoup through international courts.

I doubt, based on how the oil companies were treated, that any of them have any inclination to ever do any business in Venezuela ever again. Which is a shame since the oil reserves in Venezuela are ginormous.

Big difference between the two. The Saudis, for the most part, bought out American investors. Venezuela just took it all. Apples and oranges.

I could imagine Trump saying they ripped us off and didn't pay fair value, but of course I wasn't serious.

There is even less justification for this horseshit. Fentanyl is now a WMD by way dementia-riddled Trump's hand? Uncharted waters.

Yeah, the fentanyl thing is horseshit, but perhaps let's wait until there is an actual invasion before we declare this "worse than Iraq".

I'll reframe it. This justification is even flimsier. We will also go into with virtually no reliable allies and we have gutted our military leadership and intelligence agencies resources have diverted to focus on kicking brown people out of the country.

But there is currently “ the largest armada ever assembled in the history of South America” that has Venezuela “completely surrounded”.

Best case scenario. There will be no coalition of the willing this time. And maybe, just maybe, there will be significant GOP opposition to any military escalation. And then, TACO.

I am skeptical of an invasion. I think this is all about a show of force.

It doesn't have to something carefully planned we can stumble into disaster with shitty "leadership" like Hegseth. Trump is putting himself on a god damned coin and we renamed the department of war the department of defense
