I don't think this one will blow over very quickly. Especially not when he's getting ready to attack Venezuela over DRUG CARTELS sending drugs to the U.S. You know, the exact thing that JOH was convicted of las year.

I have that same question. I know I have different rules of engagement on a domestic mission than I do in actual combat (war). When I was reading an article a day or two ago and they were citing the Geneva Conventions I thought to myself, "I don't think they apply."

If the laws of war don’t apply, then normal maritime laws would, making the original strike illegal.

the laws of war are there to create a base for the worst situations humanity can have inflict in each other. The rules for non-wartime should be a much higher standard.

Trump designated them terrorists and is using the AUMF from 2001. If that all jibes, then perhaps the laws of war DO apply.

The WH has said that Trump designated these guys foreign terrorists and has declared war on them. So, they seem to think the Laws of War apply.

Trump just claimed live on TV from his cabinet meeting that pretty soon we won't even have income tax because the money tariffs is bringing in is so enormous. Then he said maybe you keep it around "for fun".

Another funny bit - he claimed the US is too far ahead of China on AI, so far ahead that they can't catch up. "They know that--they told me that!")

I hope he continues these utterly useless televised cabinet meetings with likes of Nutlick et al to the very end of his term. These lickspittles need to be seared into the country's conscience so they are never taken seriously again.

Trump is only interested in the Cabinet meeting when it's his turn to perform. When Marco Rubio spoke directly to him, he was snoozing away.

LOL. liddle Marco can't even excite Trump enough with his ass-kissing 'the war would have never happened if you were president'.

A few things come to mind with this recent racist diatribe:

                      - The country certainly is at a tipping point, but it's not the demographic one he's talking about. It's a full-blown political crisis, probably one that will take a generation to fix, even if it can be fixed.
                      - He can rail all he wants about third-world immigration, but until he convinces a ton of white South Africans to come here those migrants are a net positive to the economy.
                      - At some point, you have to hope that the majority of the country will just say 'enough' and vote to neuter him, kind of like what happened during his insane 2019 year.
                      - He's going to get worse in the next 3 years.

                            Obama’s First Term - 19 Cabinet meetings
                            Trump’s First Term - 25 Cabinet meetings
                            Biden’s Term - 9 Cabinet meetings

I think we can all enjoy these meetings in our own ways. Just happy we are seeing them at all in comparison to the non-existent previous President. Who didn’t make them open to the public or did for a short period before he kicked them out.

What does a cabinet meeting accomplish such that we should be counting them? Under Trump they just seem to be the leaders of each department telling Trump how wonderful he is and how everything is rosy. A far cry from Lincoln's team of rivals.

They are purely performative, and have been since long before Trump, although with Trump the level of obsequiousness has reached the stratosphere. Why having more such meetings is thought to be a positive is mystifying. Any real work is done behind closed doors with a much smaller cast, as it should be.

In a seminar on the Cabinet taught by Ed Firmage fifty years ago, my favorite story was when an LBJ cabinet meeting began with a prayer offered by Bill Moyers who sitting at the end of the table. A few seconds into the prayer, LBJ bellowed, "Bill, speak up, I can't hear you!," to which Moyers replied quietly, "I wasn't talking to you."
