It's like out of 1984, or a MAGA rally.

Putin’s speech at staged patriotic rally was abruptly cut off. The Kremlin claims it was a glitch.

“It is to get people out of their misery, out of this genocide, that is the main reason, the motive and purpose of the military operation that we began in Donbas and Ukraine,” Putin said. “And this is where the words from the Scriptures come to my mind: ‘There is no greater love than if someone gives his soul for his friends’ ” — a variation of John 15:13.

He said Russian soldiers were “fighting shoulder to shoulder” supporting and covering one another and upholding Christian values. “We haven't had such unity for a long time,” he said.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Keep in mind too, that the old Soviet model for leadership in their army is that the officers micromanage their subordinates. The enlisted soldiers do not make decisions independently, and there's not a lot of flexibility in the way junior officers carry out the orders of their superior officers. If they could have brute forced their way through Ukraine, that model could have worked for them. Now that they have to adapt, it requires the decision makers to be up close and personal.

Doesn't pass the smell test. The Russians can't resupply their forward troops but have the resources and manpower to imprison and deport thousands of residents from one city? The Russians are clearly committing war crimes but I'm wondering how accurate this specific story is.

Once you get off twitter things don’t look so good. NYT saying that Ukraine radar and air defense systems are almost wiped out. Expect a lot more Russian sorties.

Do you have a link? I haven't seen that yet. I've also been following BBC, AP and Reuters.

Mariupol is in the South and near the Russian border and surrounded by Russian troops. They are having no problems resupplying in that area. Totally plausible. Put them on a train to Russia.
