From what I understand, he won't. My understanding is that a DD kills all veterans benis. Bo D probably knows that subject better than I do, so if he contradicts me, he is probably right

He is very lucky is isn't at Leavenworth making little rocks out of big rocks

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

"Benefits" is not the word that originally came to mind while reading this.

          Why? He betrayed his country.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

            happyone, you're absolutely right.

I don't care who pays for his treatment, I just hope he gets the help he needs.

I never understood why we exchanged for him.

Um, because he was a US soldier held by the enemy?

I'm also not aware of him being convicted for desertion until now. I guess Topper believes in due process only situationally.

This just occurred to me, if Sgt Bergdahl had gone to Leavenworth, the Army would have provided his treatment, because he would have been a soldier. His DD wouldn't have come into affect until after he had served his sentence. So in some ways this is a harsher sentence.

The vindictiveness over this case is ugly. And our dumb president is making it worse.

Wasn't he convicted, or accepted a plea, and was just given a sentence? He left his post, and his search and rescue caused injuries to other soldiers because he abandoned his post. Should it go through the process? Of course, but did this magistrate go awry? Who knows.

But why did the US military risk life and limb for a deserter? That seems to be bad policy. If the US wants to give him crappy VA benefits it's no skin off my nose, but I wouldn't care if they didn't give him them either. I just don't see the reasoning of providing a deserter anything. You don't wish to serve after you enlisted? Fine, leave with nothing seems to be the fair remedy.

Here is an article describing some of the factors that went in to Bergdahl's sentence.
