I'd say people who lack all self-awareness are more annoying.

Well, I find a lack of self-awareness very insufferable. But other traits are also certainly insufferable. I'll leave it to others to judge where middle-aged woke mormons fall on the scale.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

              • How is asphyxiation by knee any different than asphyxiation by hand?

You gotta admit, that does have a nice ring to it.

                    • This is sobering. An interactive google map which links to videos of police violence/abuse in the last couple of weeks:

That map might be a bit misleading:
                          • The red pin is simply a count value. There is one for every single state, even if the count value is zero for that state. Red is also the color of "bad/danger/warning". Thus, a red dot on every state makes it looks like every single state experienced something bad.
                          • The yellow pins are links to "incidents against media" but it doesn't distinguish between incidents against media committed by police vs. incidents against media committed by protestors. For example, "News van tagged/vandalized by protesters" is lumped together with "physically yanked away by police clearing the area of media"
                          • In the case where it was some type of violence by police, the yellow pin doesn't distinguish between deliberate violence (aka abuse) and instances when the media is collateral damage because the media person was embedded into a crowd of unruly protestors.
                          • The blue pins are "verified" instances. The vast majority of stuff comes from the Greg Doucette twitter feed and he provides the commentary and potentially much of the categorization of violence. But the line between what is "violence" or "abuse" vs. what is a normal and reasonable crowd control measure is quite, umm, subjective. For example, many of the descriptions on the tweets or you tube links say police did such and such thing "for sport". As if Greg could actually read the cops mind and divine that the cop was just doing it "for sport". There is also little information on the circumstances under which crowd control tactics were used (Was there a curfew in place? Were lawful orders to disperse already given? Were there attacks on cops occurring out of frame that provide context?) For example, here is one of the videos that Greg has "verified" as violence. Judge for yourself: https://twitter.com/greg_doucette/st...00484619116548

Yes, there are definitely some disturbing videos linked on that map. But there is also a bunch of crap and little objectivity.

                          • The videos I find most disturbing are the ones where cops just whale on people with sticks/batons, beating them multiple times. Cops should obviously be able to arrest people, but I don't understand how cops can get away with repeatedly beating people as part of an arrest.

I also don't like the ones where cops just shove people (like the old guy in SLC). The incident in Buffalo where they knocked a 75 year old man over backward, he cracks his skull and lies there bleeding out of his ear, and the cops just keep on walking, stepping over his body to go force the news crew, clearly identified as news, to get away from there. The cops initially stated he "tripped and fell" until the videos started to leak out. So BPD suspends two cops for it and in response the other 57 members of the Emergency Response Team resign from that duty in a show of support for the 2 suspended cops. Because of course you want to support your brother cop that just pushed the 75 year old man over and cracked his skull because that should be perfectly acceptable behavior for a cop. The way cops cover for each other really bothers me.

100%. this is the entire problem and it is structural. there is absolutely zero use for public unions in 2020. good cops circle the wagons around bad ones. zero transparency, zero accountability. there is no solution to this problem within this generation and probably the next.

also, you're not going to love this video:

Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

Yeah i saw that one. It's definitely disturbing. There is simply no reason the cops should be allowed to legally beat the crap out of the protesters like that. The dude has his hands up and the cop is whaling on him. If the dude should be arrested, arrest him, but why should the cop be allowed to beat him?
