I'm absolutely sure that the PD is now reviewing policy and requiring mandatory training for all of their officers to avoid anything similar happening in the future.

If anything - it seems to me like this is how you would want things to work out after an incident like this.
Agreed. If anything, it's made me more supportive of this police department that happens to be the one that serves where I live.

OK thanks. That is what I had initially heard reported, even on CNN. I haven't really paid much attention to this and usually switch channels when they start talking about it. So I admit to picking up only bits and pieces.

The redundancy of the activists are getting as boring as watching Hannity go after everything President Obama does. Did Al Sharpton get involved?

The original stories coming out were either inaccurate or at least made it easy for people to draw incorrect conclusions. Yes, there was a fight, and yes some of the kids at the pool came from other places. People then took those facts and ran with it in different directions. I'm taking more of an interest because I live nearby. It just gets a little annoying when both sides draw the wrong conclusions about the place where you live, I guess.

Everyone ought to just calm down, but they probably won't for a while. I haven't heard anything from Shapton yet, but I don't watch MSNBC much except for Morning Joe. He seems to have a pretty intelligent, balanced show.

Even when you're driving 10 over the speed limit and you suddenly spot one up ahead? I don't believe you never speed or that doesn't send you a wave of fear for a second.

I live in McKinney, TX, and in general have a positive impression of their police. But let's just say I have a lot less respect for the police of the neighboring Frisco, TX because of the shady way they enforce the speed limit and other minor infractions, among other things, that show an overall lack of respect for the citizens. This is the place where a guy was arrested for just holding up a sign telling motorists of a speed trap up ahead. Of course a judge threw it out of court because it was ridiculous. If it was really about safety they would be happy that people would see the sign and slow down. But it's not really about safety.

Of course city revenue is always part of it, but also sometimes I feel it might be more about just sticking it to (as they may perceive) the spoiled rich people who live there. I tend to sense a feeling of some resentment from some of the cops against the people who live there. Just a feeling I have, and I'm sure it doesn't apply to every cop, but I do have some personal experience with it where I felt that way with them. Frisco is mostly a very wealthy area and it makes me wonder if someone could even afford to live there on a cop's salary. For a small minded person with a hard job that could very easily lead to resentment.

My opinion of the McKinney Police Dept. has been tarnished by serving on a jury where McKinney police shot and seriously wounded a resident in his own bed after midnight while serving a search and arrest warrant. IMO, such aggressive force was not warranted to make the arrest. I hope McKinney Police made policy changes after that incident. Their response to forcing the resignation of the officer in question after the pool incident is a good sign.

              • Fredricka Whitfield on CNN said the gunman who shot up Dallas Police headquarters was "courageous and brave". She now says she misspoke.

I wonder if that will be the end of it? I wonder what words she meant that she confused with "courageous and brave".

                  • Video of the attack on Police Officers in Dallas:

“Unfortunately, police work is ugly,” he said. “It’s not us climbing up a tree to get a kitten. It is real life-and-death situations where people die, and sometimes those people that die are officers.”

In recent months, police have faced increased scrutiny and massive protests following the deaths of unarmed black men in Ferguson, Mo., Baltimore and New York.

“The police are feeling like everybody’s against us,” said Keith Wenzel, a former Dallas police sergeant who trains officers across the country. “And of course, the minorities are feeling like the police are against us.”

The public seems to be questioning police authority more often, and social media and online video have magnified the animosity toward officers, Wenzel said.

“It seems like we never had a problem up until the Ferguson incident,” he said.

                      • Baltimore had its highest number of murders in May since the bad ol days of the early 90s. Directly related to that is the police departments decision not to as vigorously patrol much of the city.

As we've seen with Watts, Detroit and now Baltimore, these riots really do a lot of good.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Shootings and murders are up in NYC, too. Apart from the data, anecdotal evidence suggests a spike. Everyone I talk to in Harlem says it's the worst they've seen it in more than 15 years. I went 2 years hearing a gunshot maybe once. Now there have been two shootings that we have heard/seen on my block in less than a month...one on the corner last week in which two guys unloaded at each other at 7pm while passersby hid behind cars.

                            • On my facebook feed today:

"PLEASE HELP! That (now viral) video of the officer in McKinney subduing a girl in a bathing suit was in OUR neighborhood. The situation was NOT what is being reported…

A DJ setup in a public space next to the private pool in our neighborhood on Friday and played loud explicit (F-bomb) music for multiple hours (it is unclear if he was invited by a resident as no one has claimed responsibility). The teenagers (both black and white) were being brought into our neighborhood by the carload because the DJ was tweeting out invites to a “pool party” for $15 (obviously unauthorized by our neighborhood). The teens began fighting with each other and pushing their way into our private pool. Some were jumping our fence. The security guard was accosted when he tried to stop the beginnings of this mob scene. Some residents who live around the park/pool area tried to come out and settle things down. The teens started yelling racial slurs at our neighbors and started assaulting people and property (throwing bottles at cars and attacking a mother at the pool with 3 young children). The first officer on the scene was by himself. At that time, the party had grown to a large, aggressive crowd. As the officer arrived, many teens started running through our neighborhood. Many of the teens were being very aggressive and yelling at the officers as more arrived.

This was a very dangerous situation for the officers AND the teens/residents not involved. The news media has refused to hear the neighborhood’s side of this story. The video being distributed is only a very small segment of what happened. This information being distributed by the media and others is extremely distorted and in some cases outright lies.

PLEASE HELP US STOP THE BROADCASTING OF THIS IGNORANCE. The media is trying to make it look like our neighborhood is a white’s only, racist area. Anyone who has spent even a few minutes in our area knows this is an outright LIE.

The unfortunate result is that our neighbors are now being threatened. We have also had cars and property in and around the park area vandalized this weekend. Unfortunately, the press and social media are trying to enflame the situation.

I am asking for your help for my family and my neighbor’s safety…PLEASE, PLEASE do not rebroadcast any of these lies."
