I still remembet our high school history teacher playing ‘gotcha!!’ with us when he asked what was the civil war fought over. States’ rights!"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I loved my HS AP history class and teacher who inspired me into studying the two thick textbooks we had, for almost every night for 2 hours. It got me a 5 on the test and the right to not have to take American Heritage at BYU. But the easiest way to earn a bad grade on an essay was to write about slavery being the main reason for the civil war. Slavery not being the most important reason was the academic dogma back then. I've since learned it was the revisionist history created in the early 20th century and repeated for the next several decades even by liberal academics who didn't start to question it much with research until the last 20-30 years. Since then, the evidence uncovered through studying what people at the time actually wrote and said, is pretty overwhelming that slavery, as Goatnapper stated, was the only thing that people on both sides were willing to go to war over.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

Somewhat related, in the car my wife likes to play podcasts when she and I and our two daughters are going somewhere. She recently found a series about interesting aspects of US history. The other day we were listening to one about Lincoln and his growing up years in Indiana. Interestingly it mentioned that his parents when he was young made the decision to move from Kentucky into Indiana because it was easier to buy land there but also because Kentucky was a slave state and Indiana was not, which fit better with the values his parents had.

To me, Nikki Haley's bigger gaffe is when she said she would absolutely pardon Donald Trump so that the country could 'move on.' We can move on when we can all agree with the tenet that all men are created equal and that old piece of shit can be held accountable for his crimes."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

She is clearly pandering to the maga vote, which she would need to get the nomination. Wait, are you trying to convince me that Trump should be booted due to the 14th amendment? My brother in christ, I want Trump locked up in jail for life, let alone banned from running for office.Originally posted by BlueK View Post
The 14th amendment says what it says and the historical context and intent at the time fits with the idea of a losing president summoning a mob to help him stay in power after losing the election. It's not legal morons who have made the argument. Michael Luttig isn't a lightweight. Nor is he a liberal. The problem is that following the letter of the law here is too problematic I guess. It will drive magabots crazy and that could make things worse, I suppose."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? I wasn't necessarily addressing you directly. I agree he belongs in jail. I think the language in the 14th Amendment is pretty clear but am not confident in some members of scotus being able to stay true to their professed originalist beliefs on that one. But who knows, Trump has fared pretty poorly with the high court on almost everything.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Like, do you even read? Do you even know who has been primarily pushing these lawsuits and publicly arguing their merits for a year now?Originally posted by Moliere View Post
Liberals just can’t help themselves. This is going to backfire on them. It plays exactly into Trumps MO to claim that the deep state is doing everything they can to keep him from winning.
A better strategy would be to run someone that’s isn’t super old and that doesn’t have a pretty bad net unfavorable rating. But that would be too rational for the Dems to do so here we are…

When you say, "these lawsuits", which ones do you mean?Originally posted by fusnik View PostLike, do you even read? Who ever reads Lee Rockefeller, Tom Dilorenzo or even Walter Williams on how tariffs caused Civil War, Lincoln didn’t want to lose that much revenue. Was not really Civil War as there was no fight over same government. Latter day Conservative and blog called faithful Saints formerly Mormon Chronicles said Lincoln hated Mormons.
Michael Griffith LDS “expert”. on Joseph Smith said same thing. Had blog on that and how we “ provoked” Japan into bombing Pearl Harbor. It is mostly libertarians that think it was states rights issue. Attack Gettysburg address saying Lincoln was speaking against rights the south was fighting for. Self
government. They did what the revolutionary soldiers were doing.
Who changes there minds on there views of history after reading those type of ???? or blogs? People have mind made up anyway. Evidence was south left to keep slavery. Brm s Modoc did say though should we accept history written from northern or southern sympathizers. People with there vies on those issues already have there mind made up no matter what they read or see.

My man, we were 'negotiating' slavery for hundreds of years before the Civil War. How much longer would it have taken to negotiate?
