The only explanation that makes any sense at all is that he was hoping to keep his campaign warm until Trump got thrown in the slammer so that he could step into Trump's position on the spectrum hoping nobody would notice. I guess if that were the case, I'd have to admit that DeSantis and I do have something in common.

Slavery was the only issue where the other issues, economic and states rights, could be magnified enough for war to happen. Losing slavery threatened the elites way of life in the south and there were those in the north willing to die to eradicate slavery from the US. If there is no slavery there no other issue important enough to enough people to go to war.
