Well, Biden can't beat Trump, not with all his main advocates in the media disclosing they don't think he's fit--the entire liberal intelligentsia has overtly turned on him, from apostate never Trumper Republicans like Anne Applebaum to more progressive pundits like the Times' Michelle Goldbert and Ezra Klein and the New Yorker's David Remnick and the editorial boards of the Times, the Economist, the Atlantic, Slate and many more. It's as if a lawyer walked into Court and told the jury, "My client does not deserve a verdict in your favor." Could the client still win?

And then there's the polls, which are cratering for Biden.

Even if it's a hail Mary, you throw those when you have no choice.

For Harris, the baseline in her favor is probably half the country at least just wants a warm body to vote for instead of Biden or Trump.

I think she's underrated. Biden and his circle have seen her as a rival and had every incentive to devalue her. Biden is also a cub killer.

With the country moving right, her history as a prosecutor and with her husband a partner in a big fancy law firm will blunt charges of wokism. I think she's moderate enough.

Such a bad look. I may be in the minority, but going back to his many days as a lawmaker he had an established republication for being a civil and moderate democrat. He deserves to told the difficult truth and leave office with some dignity. Of course, even in this state he is better than Trump. Trump, in contrast has consistently proven to be a terrible person incapable of anything other than self-interest.

I agree 100% with the hail mary comment. There is nothing to lose at this point and I agree that whoever it falls to would see a spike in support. I think Kamala has about as much charisma as leftover toast, but these are desperate times.

Don't lose sight off awful and seditious Trump's inner-circle is. Inform yourself about project 2025. The Heritage Foundation is increasingly radical and they are already spouting about violence:

“Let me speak about the radical left,” Roberts said, insisting it “has taken over our institutions.” He said that the reason progressive are “apoplectic right now” — in the wake of the Supreme Court decision granting the president immunity from criminal prosecution — “is because our side is winning.”

Roberts then declared himself an insurrectionist who is open to violence: “We are in the process of the second American Revolution,” he said, “which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

The leader of the Trump-allied think tank behind Project 2025 warned "the left" to submit to a "second American Revolution" or face violence.

That rhetoric on its own is not ok, let alone the demonstrated capacity of those on the right to engage in political violence. In saner times, this guy would be condemned and politically insignificant, but not anymore. Voting for Trump is voting for this.

Biden will be forced out of the race because he will have no choice over the next few weeks. But it's an open question as to how long it will take because his family continues to give him awful advice. I'm no Joe Biden fan. I think he's a career lightweight with no real principles and has acted as a weathervane in the Democrat party, trying to parrot where he thinks the base is going (and usually doing a poor job at it). But his family (and it appears his wife) are the true villains in this saga. They pump him up and encourage him to run when a family who cares would have been pushing him to plan his exit 2 years ago.

Unless something drastic happens, and I guess anything is possible in the alternate reality we live in, Kamala will be soundly defeated by Trump. I still wish Trump would die. Biden too unless he is forced out as I think he will be.

Agreed, especially with the bolded part, although that's true of so many in politics today. See, e.g., J.D. Vance who did a 180 on his views of Trump and politics generally when he discovered he'd find greater success with the switch. They remind me of the great line (from a French politician, I think): "There go the people and I must follow, for I am their leader."

                        I don't think he's being honest.

That Roberts guy was on Steve Bannon's show when he expressed those violent thoughts. Good ole Stephen Miller is head of the project 2025 legal board, and Trump's director of the Office of Business and Management wrote part of it. These are his people.

JD Vance is one of the worst people in modern politics. Anyone associated with Peter Thiel seems to be terrible. If Biden was never VP, I doubt he'd receive as much derision. He was chosen for that ticket in part because he is a moderate.

Seems real enough to me. And it must be not great if Trump says he both doesn’t know what it is, and at the same time disagrees with some of its “abysmal” tenets.

This was a project of more than 100 organizations to prepare for a new conservative administration through policy, training, and personnel.

Trump is a known liar, but he doesn’t seem to lie about policy positions very much. In fact, one reason I didn’t worry when he got elected in 2016 was that I also thought he wouldn’t do everything he said he’d do. Well, sure enough he was probably the most loyal to the crazy promises he made. I’m inclined to believe him that he’s not beholden to the 2025 Project.

That doesn’t mean his cabinet members won’t be beholden to it, but it’s not something that gives me much pause.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
