I think the Democrats are going to try to turn the big spending bill/human infrastructure/BuildBackBetter into a signaling opportunity. I thought the Democrats could get Manchin on board, and maybe they will, but the decision to put the 4 weeks family leave back into it causes me to wonder if the Democrats have concluded Manchin isn't coming on board so just try to use it as some opportunity to virtue signal.

I do hope the bill for the infrastructure passes, I want to get spend some of it to deploy fiber optics.

In any case I think it is darker right now for Democrats than it will be next November, this is just a really difficult time to be POTUS, but there is no degree of difficulty adjustment for mid-terms.

Without the CBO score my instinct is even more that the Democratic Leadership knows it is dead so let it be a signaling opportunity. Nationally this is what we wanted, just that the moderates from more conservative states or districts sunk it. That should fire up the activists and bolster the street credentials of the moderates for standing up to the liberal wing.

Also, the VA gov elect made an effort to relate to black voters and he isn’t the most Trumpish guy. Someone did have a campaign event where they brought one of the insurrectionists flag and honored it.

The NJ Gov race was an incumbent D governor facing a virtually unknown R challenger with little to no party backing on a national level. The challenger was running on more traditional R points than on Trumpy dog whistle, voter fraud tripe. He was able to make the race extremely close in a traditionally D state with an incumbent. That should tell you how dissatisfied a lot of moderates and even some democrats are with the national party and Biden.

Oh, there's no disputing many democrats are underwhelmed with Biden etc. I expect the dems to lose congress, unless something drastic happens.

The side currently out of power spends every waking moment it is out of power telling voters what a shitshow the current people in power have created - and how if only THEY were in power they would fix all of the problems.

Along comes an election. The voters believe the side that has not been in power - thinking they'll actually do something to fix the shitshow - and vote them into power.

The shitshow continues. I mean - the players on the stage may change, but the show itself is still shit. The people who were in power and are now out of power go into marketing mode and begin sharing their stories of how the people now in power created the shitshow. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.


(Just to be clear - I'm agreeing with you falafel. Seesaw is the traditional response - weird that it's surprising to the side that lost ground as to why, they've been playing the game.)
