In all honesty I wouldn't snicker. I would hope you would hit those long shots straight. It is actually fun to watch someone do that. I do snicker at the long ball hitter who brags about how far he hits it. When he goes astray, inside I am chuckling. You have never come accross to me as a bragger.

The real reason I answered the way I did, I don't have a clue as to how to help you out and didn't want to admit it.

Some people are impressed by my ball flight but truly it's a curse. I try to shorten my swing, but it seems to make it worse. I'm most consistent when I swing what feels like my natural swing.

i only saw a few of your swings last year at Hobble, but I do recall being impressed at the high draw you hit. That is my holy grail. My natural swing is a weakish fade (I'm about 20 yards shorter than you with all my clubs). This is the first year I've learned to consistently draw all my irons and my driver about 50% of the time. Unfortunately, a controlled draw can morph into a snap hook pretty easily.

BTW, you deserve some crap for subtly throwing in the "freakishly strong" line. Next thing you you will be telling us you need to by larger than normal pants because, you know.... Oh wait that is CMBF shtick.

I would love to go back to the little fade I hit in high school that very reason.

Obviously you've never read any of my weightlifting posts.

            • Really catching the golf bug lately. I've been golfing Gladstan every Saturday afternoon for the last month. Yesterday went to Hobble. Shot +20 over my last 18 holes (playing two balls per hole). That's about to the level of my best golf. I wish I could break through that. It's so frustrating hitting some great shots but then going out of bounds off the tee so often.

              • Handicaps were updated today by the SCGA and I am now a 17.5.

                Lowest ever.

                Game is good.

                • I golfed for the first time in about 5 years this morning. I was hoping to get there early enough to hit a bucket of balls before we started, but it wasn't meant to be.

I got my money's worth (Some of you folks pay a lot of cash per stroke. I buy my strokes in bulk.)

I found myself hitting from the tee box or the rough until the 2nd to last hole. Then I actually got to hit one from the fairway.

I lost two balls, and found one. Not too bad.

I actually managed to par one of the holes when I somehow got onto the green with my first shot on a par 3.

                  Great fun.

                  • I was ready to throw my clubs in the pond yesterday. My woods went right and my irons went left all day. I lost a sleeve 4 tour yellow Bridgestone e6s. And I don't know if it's because my eyes are conditioned to look for white balls but I couldn't find these at all yesterday when I missed the fairway.

                      • Haven't posted in a while, but I'm hoping some of you more seasoned folk could tell me why the hell I am hooking the ball...

It seems to happen as I go to longer clubs. If I go to the range and start with my wedge and work my way to my longer irons I am fine hitting my normal natural draw. When I pull my driver, I start out hitting my draw but as I hit more and more balls I start to hook the ball. By the time I end, I am hitting a nasty duck hook.

Anybody have any suggestions on how to stop my driver from *&%$ing with my swing plane?

                        • Have you tried weakening your grip? That is the first thing I look at when I find myself hooking or slicing.

I might need to look at this. I've gotten out consistently enough to actually work on my game a few different years over the last 10 and I think fiddling with my grip helped. This is one of those times. I actually have my driver working. I started hitting them dead straight one outing recently and my buddy told me the difference was in keeping my arms straight and making it a shoulder movement not an arm movement. I've been focusing on that and my drives are on fire.

My biggest plague right now is chunking or topping my irons (outside of my shitty putting and short game in general). The pull hook is still an issue but getting better.

I played the equivalent of an 88 today at Spanish Fork. Probably about the best I've ever golfed. Yippy!

Nice, the 88 I mean. You can look forward to getting better and better. Me it is a struggle to maintain.

I did though go from shooting in the high 90's earlier this year and thinking I am going to give up golf and start chasing women, to now shooting in the low 80's and wondering why the heck I ever had such a thought.

The Oaks while not particularly long has very tricky greens and can be a tough course. 88 is a solid score.
