  • 93 today, but it was a good 93. Only 1 shank. Lots of pulled shots due to overcompensating. I think, I hope I am past this episode.

This season's Big Break girls needs to be higher. I'd watch the LPGA if these girls played in it.

        • Unofficial British Open Results.

It looks like Drunk Tank is the Winner. I've got a busy morning, I'll get out the final results and figure this out this afternoon.

No golf Saturday - They had a Sat/Sun tourney, and I elected to watch golf on TV instead.

I didn't pick Tiger either, so I guess we tied.

Not past the episode by a long shot. Was going along nicely and then totally shanked a 7 iron on a par three. Didn't hit a decent shot the rest of the day. A smooth 110.

I did go out on the range and at least fixed it on the range by looping my back swing. The real test is on the course though. That is where I care where my shot goes, unlike on the range.

                • Bandon Dunes golf report

                  Tuesday 7:55 AM
                  Pacific Dunes par 71
48-45, 93. This course according to the USGA is the least difficult of the four at Bandon. The USGA and I have drastically different opinions, this is the hardest course I have ever played. When I broke 100 (97) in April I thought it was the best round of golf I had ever played. Most everyone I have talked with feels the same about Pacific being harder, but they might just be agreeing so I'll stop whining.

                  Wednesday 7:40 AM
                  Old MacDonald Par 71
43-52. 95. This is my favorite course at Bandon, which I seem to be the only person that I've talked to that feels this way. I played the from in bogey golf, the back is really long and the wind started picking up and I didn't play well. I was happy that I kept it at 95.

                  Wednesday 1:30 PM
                  Bandon Trails Par 71
46-46, 92. This matches the best score I have ever shot anywhere, I couldn't make a putt to save my life. The way I was hitting the ball from tee to green this should have been a round in the low to mid-80s. I was ecstatic. Just couldn't close.

                  Thursday 7:05 AM
                  Bandon Dunes Par 72
49-44, 93. Started triple, quad, triple and thought the fortune I had the day before was gone forever and was ready to walk off and never play golf again. Then I didn't put up anything other than bogey or par the rest of the round. A very frustrating 3 putt bogey on the par 5, 18th that was a birdie putt that was in the make range about 14 feet uphill, hit it about 6 feet then raced the par putt by 3 feet.

I am not sure if I am excited or nervous to play again at my home course, if I strike the ball like I did there and play on more familiar greens there is no reason that I shouldn't be in the 80s. It is also totally possible that I used up all my good golf karma and will return to shooting 105+ and retire from golf.

                  • Played at Wasatch Mountain (x2) and Hobble Creek once while in Utah. Had a great time.

TK2 shot a 110 at Wasatch Mountain. Her previous best was 123. She played lights out. She is having fun with golf for the first time ever.

                    Highlight of the round...

2nd time I played Wasatch Mountain...they put me with a guy who works with LDS Films...

He had Pass-Along Cards with him and was handing them out to anyone on the course from out of state.

                      • I hadn't played in quite a while, but went out today and shot an 80 (40 each side). It was an easy course (118 slope) but I was still surprised by the score. And yet it illustrates a common occurrence for me. Often, my first round after a long layoff is great, but in subsequent rounds my game deteriorates (I'm a 13 index, but > 30 years ago was well down in single digits). It's as if my brain and body know how to play, and have forgotten all my bad habits, but then as time goes on those bad habits are remembered and reinstalled. I'm thinking of not playing again until a CUF tourney this fall, so I can open up a can on 'junkie and fusnik.

This is universal, and for exactly the reason you stated.

On the other hand, when I play 3 times a week, my scores can go really low. At least once a year I try to cram 72 holes in, in one week. That hones me better than any other thing. Twice a week is my normal summer schedule, and I can maintain an edge, but last week I didn't play for 10 days, and on the front, I really struggled to get it done. I wonder if that's why I always have a lower back than front.

This used to be true for me, I would always score 3-6 shots lower on the back 9. However this season as the idea of flirting with breaking 90 becomes somewhat realistic I am always 3-5 shots higher on the back. On occasion I am much more than 5.

It is obvious to me that I don't deal well with the pressure and as I am thinking about what I need to score to keep it going. In particular holes 15-18 are probably averaging double bogey or worse for me in the last 4 months.

                              • Back from my Golf marathon in SLC. I golfed two rounds at Mountain Dell. (Hard to read the greens in canyon courses) <<<<<I know slope goes towards valley still plays with your mind. I am convinced you cannot make long putts. Shot a 103. Then I played two rounds the next day at Meadowbrook in Taylorsville. Birdied the first two holes on the first round then fell apart! 102. Went up to Lava springs and played the 9 hole they have up there. That course was deceivingly difficult. Shot a 99. Lots of little hidden streams through the course.

Overall I am frustrated. Once you think you figure this game out I go back to 100+ scores. Oh well. Back to fixing my swing and putting!
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)
