Of the courses I play most: Hobble, Spanish, Gladstan, East Bay, it's probably the easiest. I played in the morning when the wind is a bitch. So I'm very happy with the 88.

    • Well tomorrow and Saturday is the July 24 tournament at the CLub (humblebrag).

It is time. I have to shoot in the 70's. I have been big mouthing that I am going to do it for a while.

I need the added pressure. If I don't get into the 70's either day there should be punishment for making a claim and not making it.

If I don't throw down 1 score in those two days in the 70's, I will throw in $250, to go toward prizes at our upcoming golf event. I will need a picture of everyone and ask a few if they are happy with their investment advisors, so I can deduct it on my tax return. You can all respond yes with a big smile, I will still get the write off.

        Lowest ever.

        Game is good.
Good on you tick. I wouldnt doubt there will be a day you will be single digit. I didnt get to a single digit handicap until I was in my fifties. My 69 round and hole in one came in my late fifties. You got plenty of time to be a single digit player.

Dude, you've just invited the collective bad wishes from the CUF Golf Team. I hope you win the tournament but that you do so with a score of 160 or higher.

Oh, and I had a strange (but lots o' fun) round yesterday at the SL Country Club. I shot an 89, but had only one bogey the entire round. I was three under on the par fives, and a whopping ten over on the par threes. Since this was only my fifth round this year, consistency is not a hallmark of my game. Never has been, actually.

I understand the bad wishes. There will be legions of bad wishes. Tournaments our group will have 24 to 30. My good buddie and I "hang the sheet" which means will we match our best ball against any other two best ball in a 5-10-5 nassau.

3 guys take the field against us and there are probably another 20. That works out to about 80 different combos betting against us. My partner and I will have no one wishing us good luck tomorrow.

You played THE Salt Lake Country Club. Not easy to get on unless you know someone. You must know many high rollers that can get you on.

I have one guy that invites me all the time. Problem is I don't like golfing with him. Was it in great shape.

I think PAC bought Jim Boylens membership on his way out of town.

Wouldn't doubt it for a minute. Every golf post of PAC's has him playing at THE Country Club, Spyglass, The Olympic Club, et. al. As a golfer I dream of experiences PAC actually has.

Yeah I am waiting for him to offer me his hook up for tickets to the US Open at The Olympic Club next year.

                  • Threw down a 81 today with a triple bogey in the round.

Good news is partner and I teamed terrific. Clobbered the field where 36 showed up in our group and we had 61 bets on the sheet.

One day to go to get in the 70's or I guess I will regret my big mouth statement.

                    • 10 pars, 1 birdie, 2 bogies, 3 doubles and one triple. Guess that adds up to a stinking 82. What is terrible is the 3 doubles happened when I was within 10 yards of the green in two. That's right my chipping is still a major problem. I chip it so bad I get ticked and then don't care and end up with a double. Oh well.

Luckily my partner and I teamed perfectly. Made some pretty good cha ching this weekend so I really don't mind contributing to the "prize money" fund for the golf outing in the fall. Maybe I will learn to chip and get it back.

                      • nice job 71.

                        Yesterday at Gladstan:
92 including a 9 on a par 4. One rattlesnake on the cart path in front of the tee box of 14. Scared the shiz out of me. That used to be my favorite hole in any course in Utah. The kids that work there said they've killed 9 rattlesnakes so far this year.

                        • Handicap Index Question: How significantly does does course slope and rating really factor into a handicap?

I recently, for the first time in my life, began tracking my handicap. I'm reporting my scores through a free service a friend told me about. After my first 5 rounds it gave me a handicap which is quite a bit lower than I think it should be. With 6 rounds recorded, I've shot 87, 79 (with a triple bogey on a short par 5--gah!), 87, 85, 82 and 87. An average of 84.5, or 12.5 strokes over par. However, it's saying my handicap is 5.7. How does that even make sense? (BTW, that is not a humblebrag, because I legitimately don't believe it to be correct. I am, at best, a 10 handicap, IMO.)

Two of the courses (Bear's Best and Coyote Springs) are very difficult, but the rest were just so-so, and on a couple of them I played from the whites with my group. Is my score skewed from only having input 6 rounds, or is the website i'm using miscalculating? I'm a decent golfer, but I'm not a 6 handicap. I'm playing in a club tournament soon and I'd prefer to have a few more strokes.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

It is the slope rating. You can go to USGA.com (or org) handicap section and plug in your index. Then try different slope rating and you will see what your handicap is on that slope rating.

Yep its the slope it is either not calculating the slope or you are playing some very tough courses. I can shoot low 90s at Thanksgiving Pointe and it will give me a single digit handicap. Yet I shot an 86 at Sleepy Ridge and for that round it was a 16.

Also it takes I believe the lowest 10 scores of your last 20 rounds. So the more you play the more true your handicap will be.

The slope ratings of the 6 courses i've played are, respectively:139, 132, 125, 123, 128, and 130. What is an average slope rating?
