Playing Report Wednesday Aug 1, 2012 Men's Club

    43+48=91

I had a 2 foot downhill birdie putt on the first hole, and it went 6 feet past with the severe slope. 3 putt bogey. After 6 holes, I'm playing pretty good, but am 6 over. On the back I took a dreaded 11 on the par 5 12th. Two snap hooks OB, and hitting 5 off the tee will do that to ya. From there my driver abandoned me, and scrambling took over. What's funny, is that my iron play has been excellent. I've put some time into the range recently, and that trap draw is becoming a thing of beauty.

Shot of the day: a 9 iron from 131. Pinched it off the turf, and it landed 2 feet left of the pin, hopped forward 3 feet and sucked itself back another 8 feet to rest 5 feet below the pin for a uphill birdie try. I missed it of course, but i did get the par.

The club championship is this weekend, so I have to play Friday to get my second round in this week.

Playing Report Friday Aug 3, 2012 (Men's Club)

      43+42=85

      Zero Birdies, 8 pars, 9 bogey's, 2 dbogey's

In short, I missed about 10 putts I coulda/shoulda had. By the time I missed my third birdie putt from less than 5 feet, on the front alone... I thought I was gonna have to go crazy, and die. The worst putt was on a 1 footer. I had a muscle twitch on the tap in action, and double tapped the ball as it went in the hole. I drove the ball much better than on Wednesday, the iron play continues to be nice, and my short game around the green could have been about 2/3 shots better. Putting could have been about 8 shots better really easily. In short, I'm playing pretty good, but not scoring very well. Emotionally, I'm enjoying it as much as ever, and scoring is taking a back seat to just having fun.

In the last two rounds I've played with 3 local high school teachers, and all of them are exceptionally nice people. One of them from Wednesday has been teaching at the same high school for 41 straight years, and he's only 63. I asked him why he doesn't retire - his answer - "I love teaching, and I love the kids. I want to enjoy it as long as possible." I was talking about that quote with the teacher from today - who teaches at the same high school, and he said, "Everyone in the school loves and respects Mr. Smith." When he say's he loves the kids, it must be true, because if he were to retire with his PERS Annuity, he would make about $22,000 more a year for not teaching, than he does teaching." I thought that was interesting...

BTW... our team won again. I keep making money on my tab, and I can't spend it fast enough. The cart girl today followed me around just to keep me in Diet Cokes, and a good tip. "Put it on my Tab..." I don't know of anything that tastes better than ice cold, freshly popped Diet Coke, swigged by a really hot golfer, and paid for by my fellow golfers. Pure Heaven.

Member guest practice round is today. We will probably have about 60 in our "investment" group. On this day the damage can get as high as $300-$400 per person on a team.

I am going into the 3 day tournament as a 18. My partner is a 19. Because I through down a 87 and 82 my last two rounds, I am afraid my team will get bid up pretty good in the calcutta. I am not going to bid, but just take my option of buying half from whoever buys us.

Yep, I plan on winning it. I wonder if I should update in this thread or the Olympics thread.

Excellent point. I am at the confident stage, but realize the shanks could show up again at any time.

I never chortle anymore. One time my partner and I were 6 under gross and 9 under net after 7 holes. We were hooting and hollering and yelling across fairways how we were burying everyone's butts. Disaster struck and we ended up losing $300 each. I have never Chortled since.

Why do so many of you keep picking Tiger?

                            He isn't going to win.

Tiger has a greater chance of winning "Father of the Year."

I don't think he'll win, but I think he'll be top 5. He is the current world # 2 and is the favorite @ 7-1 odds in Vegas. Hard to not pick him, IMO.
