  • I have to eat a bit of crow today. I played the Gamer V2s again, and they were much better today. Part of it was probably the fact that the greens were uber soft (90 yard wedge shots were leaving deep ball marks), but they were definitely more responsive today than when I hit them in Vegas last week.

They definitely stuck a lot better on the greens today. Too bad I couldn't hit a fairway.

Nothing to eat crow about, its one of the most sophisticated golf balls on the market. It's a 3 piece ball manufactured by Callaway, and labeled as Top Flite. It's design is to go deep and spin. I admit to it being better at going long than spinning, but since I can hit a more lofted club into the green because of the length, I have more control and accuracy.

That being said. I was forced to play a Titleist NXT Tour on Wednesday, and I really liked it as well as the Gamer.

      • I shot an 84 today at Davis Park. I struck the ball better than that, but two OB tee shots really put a dent in my score. I was even on all five of the par 3s, three of which were playing at 190 or longer. My best shot of the day came on a 210 yard par three, where I hit a draw to within 6 feet. I had complete control of my ball flight with my irons today, hitting fades and draws on command. I'm still fighting with my driver, unfortunately. The occasional good drive mixed in with a punch of pulls and uber fades.

        • Saturday morning my son and I played the Dye Course at Promontory and it was fun. I love playing with him first off because he's my son and second of all he is the only one that will play the gold tees with me. The front nine plays to almost 4000 yards with one par 5 at 720 yards and one par three at 299 yards. On that par three we got up on the tee and both of us started laughing because it is such a ridiculously hard hole. It required a drive of about 260 to carry onto grass with no bale out left and and very little on the right. I made a bogey and felt good about it. The greens are large with a lot of undulation. Pars felt like birdies and my score was huge but it was fun.

Chad Lewis had his annual golf tournament at Promontory this year. It is a 4 man scramble and the winning team was only like -6.

            Very tough course.

            • Played 18 today and shot a 96. Not great but considering I started out +7 after two holes it was a minor victory. After going triple-quad I settled down and kept the same ball in play for the next 16 holes. 51 on the front. 45 on the back. It was a bit frustrating leaving some shots out there. But on the flip side I made enough shots that I was feeling good about my game.

              • With camp season basically in the books I am going to play a lot of golf in September. I already have 3 rounds lined up the rest of the week. If I can straighten out the driver I think I can start playing mid 90s golf consistently.

                • I got up and down on five straight holes (four pars and a birdie) yesterday which really is a miracle. I may not quit this game after all.

                  • I played at SLeepy Ridge in Orem the other day.

Every drive was in the fairway right down the middle. Every iron shot was fat, thin, pulled, or duffed.

Every shot inside of 50 (after dicking my mid-irons) was money.

Every putt was average at best.

                    That equals a 94.

                    • Whatever I did right yesterday, I forgot today. I struggled something fierce all day off the tee. Yesterday I played with the same ball for 16 holes after struggling on the first two. I lost 3 balls in the first two holes today. I finally stopped keeping score on the front 9 it was so bad and just used the round to practice some shots I normally wouldn't try.

The back 9 was still ugly, but finished bogey, bogey, par, bogey. The worst part about that, two of those bogeys I was putting for birdie and 3 putted. But it was nice to straighten out my driver and put the ball on the green in regulation.

                      • I know I'm still whining about the greens in Utah. But here is an example of when I hit a 58 degree from 75 yards out here versus having it bounce off the greens like as superball as it did last 2 weeks ago in Utah.

                        • I am really starting to feel like I am figuring things out. My last 5 rounds are 94, 102, 94, 108, 94.

The 102 was with clack and I kept feeling like I was close to putting things together with him, then the 108 was the other day with a guy from work and it was his 2nd round of golf in 4 years and I just had a hard time staying focused.

Playing tomorrow and I'm hoping for my first back to back sub-100 rounds.

Quit using a garbage ball and maybe you'll get better results.

EDIT: BTW, that is either a tee box or the slowest green in the history of the game.

I hope you break 100, but I'm going to predict you shoot a 102. On the bright side, your next round after that will be a 94!

I still have 2 dozen of my logoed Pro-V1 left. Next year I think I'm switching to Bridgestones though. What ball do you play with?

No it is the green, I sunk the ball 1/4 way down on my approach. I just took the picture about an hour ago, so they are a little slower than first thing in the morning when they are mowed.
