  • I played twice this weekend, once at Sky Mountain in Hurricane and once at St. George Golf Club.

Weather was absolutely perfect for both rounds (mid 60s). Sky Mountain is in phenomenal shape. My first round since November I struggled a bit, I was over swinging and did not play great at all.

Second round was at St. George golf club, the greens were in great shape as nice as any greens I have seen. However they only water the fairways and greens during the winter so the rough was dead grass and dirt. It was horrible, pretty much impossible to hit out of. Also we were the first tee time of the day (9:00am) we were flying we were teeing off on hole 7 at 9:55) playing every hole in under 10 minutes when a marshall pulls up and tells us that we are slowing everyone up and that we needed to pick it up, he told us that there were groups backed up behind us (which was bullshit it was just one group that was two old guys who werent even putting). We finished 18 holes in 3 hours and 5 minutes and the marshall told us to pick it up 3 different times, I will not play there again just because of that, it really pissed me off and I felt rushed the whole day.

I would have gone into the pro shop after the round, noted that we got around in just over three hours, and complain about the marshal who kept bothering you. It wouldn't have done any good, but I enjoy raging impotently.

St. George is garbage. I hate the management there. Worst course in Southern Utah, and it's not close.

Sky Mountain is awesome, but if you don't keep it in the fairway, you're usually in trouble; the rough is scarce, and beyond that is the lava, which you usually can't hit out of even if you're lucky enough to find your ball.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

St. George golf club? Are you guys talking about the Country Club? I haven't played the course in over 20 years. With so many great courses down there, I am surprised they still have people join that club. It doesn't stack up against the public courses.

The weather was great in St. George. Unfortunately the grandsons games were at perfect times to prevent me from even getting in 9 holes. No games on Sunday, but I didn't want to set a bad example for my son and grandson.

St. George Golf Club is a public course in Bloomington Hills. You're thinking of Bloomington Country Club, which I've never golfed, but have heard isn't that spectacular.

You are right. We refer to it as St. George CC, but it is really the Bloomington CC. I think I have played the St. George GC if it is the one East of the Freeway. Not a great track as I remember.

I think the only course worse than St. George is Sun River, down south of Bloomington on the west side of I-15. That is a mudhole.

St. George is not near the freeway, but it is on the east side of the freeway.

Yes it is garbage you are correct. It was the only course where we could get a tee time Sunday morning.

Sky Mountain is awesome I have played it quite a few times and I agree it is very tight, I used my rock club about 5 times.

Aren't there nine holes that wind up through the hills and houses or am I thinking of yet another course.

You're thinking of Southgate, I believe. The back nine on that course is fun, but the front side was pretty ruined by the dam break back in 1988. They ended up chopping off a couple holes that were on the other side of the freeway, selling the land for development, and shortening up all the other holes to still have 9.

It is on the west side of the freeway, and first green is visible as you drive through the pass leaving town.

Yep, I am thinking of Southgate. There are several courses in St. George I have never played. Sunset, St. George GC., Sand Hollow and the Ledges. I have played red rock, red cliffs, red hills or whatever the heck it is called.

Dixie Red Hills is fun, but only 9 holes (and not long at all). Sunbrook is a great 27 hole course. I like that course a lot., though one of the nines isn't as fun as the other two. I haven't played Sand Hollow or The Ledges either.

Since I went on my mission back in 1998, there have been about 5 new courses added. Of them, I've only golfed Coral Canyon and Entrada.

My favorite course in St. George is actually in Washington: Green Springs. That's the course I grew up playing, and is still one of the toughest in town.

Green Springs is fun, I love the gorge holes.

I have played The Ledges, Coral Canyon and Entrada. I have not played Sunbrook or Southgate. I played Dixie Red hills about 10 years ago but do not remember much about it.

If I were choosing where to play I would go in this order of the courses I have played.

                                1) Coral Canyon
                                2) Sunbrook, Bridge and Canyon, not a big fan of the lava one
                                3) Green Springs
                                4) Entrada
                                5) Sky Mountain

I would be happy playing any of them.
