Which arm is he anchoring against his body? His hand is anchored against his chest, no doubt. But his arms both look pretty free to me.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Did you read the proposed rule?

The club is anchored "directly" when the player intentionally holds the club or a gripping hand in contact with any part of his body

I did not read the proposed rule. If you had said "hand" instead of "arm" that probably would have inspired me to read the rule.

        • I can see how my left forearm tucked into my body would be illegal from the above quote, even though my hand or club does not touch my body. My other preferred method of putting is to stick the butt of the club in my sternum, and putt both both hands lower, more conventional. In either case, it looks like I'm screwed.

I'm legitimately interested, but since I've never hit Pings, I don't know if I need a black dot or what. also, I suspect I'd probably benefit from the forgiveness of the G20s, since I don't get out as much as I used to.

As a younger person who already hits the ball high, these are the babies for you. An up and coming legal eagle, like you, playing in events around the valley, needs the strong look of PING. Ping is the BMW of golf clubs. The i20's are like a 650i. You deserve them for the hard year you've put in. I'm sure your wife loves you and wants you to step up from those Tour Model II's you've had since high school. Pull the trigger, DH.

                • Played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Shot an 87,86,88. First time in my life that I have had 3 rounds in a row in the 80's.

I am hitting the ball really well. The round that I shot the 86, I felt like I should have shot in the 70's. (And I have yet to do that...ever)

Took 2nd place Net in a mens club event on Sunday. $125 in script at the clubhouse. Going to start saving that stuff up for a set of custom clubs. That is $325 I have won in 3 months.

                  Not bad at all.

                  • Tick and I are on our home course's SCGA Team Play team. We had our first match on Saturday. It is match play and there is a total of 6 points available per twosome (2 individual matches and 1 team match worth 2 points each for a win and 1 point for a draw). Anyways, Tick and I were teammates Saturday. We both won our individual matches and our team match(Tick 5 & 4 and I won 3 & 1 and team 5 & 4). Overall our home course won 32/16. Match play is pretty fun. This was the first time I have ever played this format in a tourney.

                    • Spoiler for Abu Dhabi Spoiler:
Rory misses the cut and then Tiger misses after being slapped a 2 stroke penalty for taking a drop he shouldn't have. His ball was embedded but apparently there was sand to the right so the ball should have been played as it lay because it was sandy based.

After reading about the ruling it appears that some fans and perhaps a writer tailing the group brought the possible infraction up to a rules official who determined that the relief he took was in fact illegal. That 2 stroke penalty caused Tiger to miss the cut by a stroke.

I think we have discussed this before, but these kinds of situations still bother me to no end about golf. One of the things I like about golf is the integrity of the game and players trying to abide by the rules. Here were two professionals who both arrived at the same conclusion and interpretation of the rules. It bothers me though that a fan can call over a rules judge and get a player penalized. This example isn't as extreme as the one that sent Padraig home with a DQ two years ago in Abu Dhabi where a TV viewer phoned in the rule violation after Paddy had long signed his score card but it still drives me nuts. Maybe that's because my screaming at refs in other sports has no affect.

                      • It's nice to see the Golf Thread get some posts this time of year.

I got to go to Palm Springs last weekend with some guys and two of my boys. What a great trip. I would do it more often but they are married with young children so the wives aren't real excited about those kind of trips.

Played good and bad and really bad. Still, I think I will bug out of here again next weekend to warmer climate.

I am thinking I won't retire for at least another 5 years, but these winters are getting me to think more and more I won't last that long (not retiring I mean).

                        • Tick and I had our second SCGA Saturday Team Play match this last weekend. We played the same team as last week, but this time at our home course. Tick and I both won our individual matches as well as our team match. So far we are undefeated. Our team won 38-12.

I played terrible but was still able to beat my opponent 4/3. Tick's individual match and our team match were 1 down with 3 to play. Tick played great on the 16th and 17th hole and brought his and the team match to 1 up with 1 to play so we were at least guaranteed a split. Tick bogeyed the final hole and his opponent recorded an 8 so Tick won his match 2 up. My opponent and I both had team pops and he parred the last hole but it was no match for my birdie (net eagle) so we won the hole and the match 2 up as well.

Bad beat of the day came on the 8th hole. We were +1 on the team match and I hit my approach to 6ft for an easy birdie. Ticks opponent is 75 yards out and one hops his ball into the cup for an eagle to put us even. If he missed, he would have been 10yds past the cup. That hurt.

                          • We've had a string of warm, sunny days and watching the Waste Management last weekend has me feeling the bug. I'm ready to start hitting some balls and playing. I'm breaking 90 at least once this summer, or I'll come up with some consequence later.

My dad has played 5 rounds this week already. He retired back in June last year. He bought himself a golf membership and is out there every day. He probably averages about 5 hours a day on the course, range and putting greens. If it isn't raining or snowing and they're letting them play, he plays.

                              • A great client invited me to join him at Olympic this morning, but I declined, noting I needed to spend the day responding to questions about my board's name change.

I haven't played in at least two months. That means my next round will probably be in the low 80s, followed by multiple rounds in the neighborhood of triple digits.
