    I LOVE this new 58.

I use midsize grips. And I was going to get them regripped and extended like my other clubs, but then I was thinking I'm loving the feel of these so much, maybe I don't want to mess with it? And I was reading online that smaller grip might give you better feel in a wedge? But then also it can make you too handsy. Any thoughts on this?

LOL, I know the feeling. Last year on our Mesquite trip I went into a golf shop to get my putter regripped. I ended up walking out of there with a regripped putter and two other putters.

Luckily for me and my pocket book, on demo day at Oakridge I hit the Ping I 20's. Absolutely loved the 7 and 5 iron and had him write up the ticket. I then hit the PW and couldn't hit it at all. It is lucky I hit the PW or I would have bought clubs to replace perfectly good clubs only 1 year old.

    • Golf Report - 9 holes = 37

For 20 years I was a cart rider. It was about the golf, not physical punishment. In the past year I gained 15 pounds, and at the age of 52, its getting harder and harder to keep the tide of old age from creeping up on me. As reported earlier I bought the ClicGear and new bag, with the intent of hoofing it. I went out to my club to pay this years dues and play nine holes in 52* weather, and sloppy low areas. I ended up feeling like the minister from caddy shack.

1st hole -chip and a tap in - par
      2nd - 10' birdie missed high - par
      3rd - 15' birdie missed low - par.
      4th - missed green (220 par 3) chip and 2 putt - bogey.
      5th - 189 second to 25' for birdie missed short - par
      6th - 110 yard wedge to 20' missed bird - par
      7th - 130 9 iron to 2 feet - birdie.
8th - big drive - 120 to pin - wedge to 3 feet past. I wanted to double dare myself and hit another wedge to "prove" my new clubs to myself. Hit it to 3 feet left of the pin. Missed my downhill bird short - Par (made the non counting bird)
9th - 195 second shot 20' short of the green. So I have to chip up and down for even par. Flubbed the chip, leaving it 15' short. Par putt looked good all the way, but burned the low right edge. Tap in bogey.

I'm not sure what to make of this round. I was dead dog tired after 3 holes, and plodded the course. The walking kept me really loose, and I swung with a surety and freedom. Not sure right now if I could walk 18, but it felt really good to have the athletic burn of a hard work out.

My new clubs - what can I say? I was on the pin every shot, and from a 7 iron in, felt like I could stuff it if I just relaxed and put a swing on the ball. I know that for the last 10 years I've been a 8-10 handicap, but I'm hoping optimistically that this summer I'll have more rounds in the 70's than in the 80's. It was so easy today, that I almost feel sheepish reporting this round. At least Husky has played with me, and can attest that I'm not just making this stuff up.

        CONGRATS, nice nine!!

I threw down a 38 on the front today. Teeing off on 10 was thinking about getting the 79 or better. Good drive, bad six iron, bad chip and then 4 putted missing a 1 footer for the 7. Then parred the next 6. 5 over with 2 to go. Triple bogey, bogey. So close yet so far away.

          • My company golf league started today. Prior to my round I went to Golf Galaxy and ended up hitting a few sets of irons. Altogether I probably hit sixty or so shots and have pretty much settled on a set of Mizunos. I also bought a Taylor Made R11 five wood.

The problem is with all that hitting I was done before I hit my first shot. My back seized up and I was swinging like I was ninety years old. I won my match in very unimpressive fashion. I'm about to OD on ibuprofen and sit in the hot tub for an hour.

Golf league starts for me next week, this is my third year playing. I never post about it because there is something soul crushing in reliving 9 holes of getting destroyed by a 70+ year old man. I'm going to be optimistic and say that I'm playing better and will win at least one week this year.

Also Clack I will vouch for Clack he is a stick, although I'm curious if he's just playing with the Ping's and given up his homemade clubs? He had a couple crazy self-made clubs like a golfing Doc Holliday, the one I remember and tell people about was, I think, a 9 wood head with a driver shaft it was the craziest thing and he was money with it.

Walking nine or eighteen seems to help me with weight loss as much as all my gym time and bike miles do.

Back in the day... (Uncle Rico moment coming) I was a three sport athlete in high school. At 6'1" and 175 I played Football/Basketball/Track. Track was my favorite, as I loved to run, and my running mates were all my good buddies. We were Sprinters. The hardest workout we ever had to do was having to run twenty - 440's in less than 65 seconds, with the coach holding the stop watch. We would run a lap, and walk a lap. If was more than 65 it didn't count. 40 laps around the track was ten miles. At the age of 17 I was in as good a shape as anybody could be, and I didn't really realize what a blessing it was to have such a well functioning body. I took it for granted.

Walking and pushing the cart yesterday scared the crap out of me. It really hurt, and this morning I'm feeling it. Better late than never, and I'm going to get serious about getting back some stamina, and start walking everyday even if I don't play . I'm looking forward breathing better, and looking better in my fashionable cargo shorts. The weird thing about golfing yesterday was that the golf seemed secondary to just being able to make it around the course. I didn't really realize that I was even after 8 holes until I was in the fairway at 9.

HFNW - My special club is a 7 wood with a driver shaft. It's ten times easier to hit than a 4 iron, and it goes straight up, and at 185 yards it runs out of steam, and falls out of the sky with no energy behind it. 4 irons have too much steam going through the green, and are harder to hit anyway. Yesterday I hit the club twice, and both times was exactly what I needed.

                  • Note: If you're wondering why I go into detail about my rounds, it's because I use this space as a tool to evaluate my game. Looking back through my post's I can spot trends and problems, and address the issues.

                    Saturday's Golf Report 43+40=83

I told my playing partners on the 18th tee, that, if I was an airplane, they'd be putting foam down on the runway for me. It was all I could do to limp home, with my back out, and thoroughly spent of energy. Do you remember the feeling when doing something new that there is no way that you'll ever get used to this? And then later you get used to it and it becomes common place for you. Today was the first awful day of the rest of my life for golfing. For twenty years I've golfed out of a cart. Today I walked 18 holes, more than 5 miles, for the first time again. I loved it, and hated it at the same time.

On the front, I went par, par, bogey, par (hardest hole), par, Triple Bogey, Bogey, Bogey, Bogey. The triple included an OB, and a missed putt from 10 inches. The bogey on 8 was a good chip to 3 feet and miss for par.

On the back, I went bogey, bogey, par, par, par, par, bogey, bogey, par.
Every bogey on the back was inadvertent, as they all had good approach shots. 10 was short right, from 170, 11 was a nice/perfect trap draw at the pin that was a club too long and put me on the upper tier on the back of the green resulting in a 3 putt from aerated conditions that are 80% back to good. On 16 I hit another trap draw with an 8 iron from 135, that went through the green (I played a club long on purpose as there is a steep hill and water in front of the green, with the new clubs and wet conditions and a bit of a side hill lie I over thought the club choice. I should have trusted my normal yardage and I would have been putting birdie. ) 17 I thought was a hole in one when it was in the air, but it went a little long and I thin bladed a 60* wedge which sent me 15 feet past resulting in a two put bogey. (curse you Santos) 18 was a good drive and a 5 wood into the par 5, and a chip to 10' and a missed birdie tap in par.

On the back 9 my back hurt so bad, that I pushed my cart from the heads of the woods so I could take pressure off my back by pushing down on the balance point of the cart. The good news is that when I got home I got into my HomeMedics 360H and massaged the heck out of my back, and now a couple of hours after the round, I feel 100% and now have to go out and mow the lawn.

Side Bar Story: Played in Men's Club today. Playing partner #3 was a 30 year old 26 handicapper. He out drove me on most every hole, and he birdied the #1 handicap hole where He got a 2 net reduction. So he scored a 3, and with the two net he got a 1! Good for our team! I think the guy might have had a eye sight problem because he could never find his ball. On every hole someone had to point it out even though it was in plain sight. Very strange. I don't care how bad you suck, if you keep pace, and don't slow the group down - nobody cares.

                    • Keep the walking up. It does get easier.

We walked 18 at Bountiful Ridge on Friday. Everyone thinks that is a tough course to walk, but there are really only a couple of tough uphill climbs. I used the GPS tracker on my phone and ended up walking 6.5 miles. I also had my best day ever, shooting a legit 85 (84, no mulligans, but par is 71).

My brother didn't fare so well. He was all over the place, and shot a 120. He ended up walking over 7 miles with all his additional back and forth.

                      • 42/47 89 at Gladstan. Two triples on the back, including 14 which is probably my average on that hole.

Good energy! However, the general monotone to your voice is what makes it yours, and I wouldn't change it if I could. I appreciate that you spent 3 of your 8 seconds of fame talking about gambling. Very apropos.

                              • My golf shoes are in need of updating. I have l-o-v-e-d my last pair or Eccos - most comfortable golf shoes I've ever owned. I'm intrigued by their hybrid models. Has anyone ever played with these soft soles. I'm curious how quickly they wear down, since I can't replace them like typical spikes.

Or should i just stick with the typical replaceable spike design?
