Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Overall, a really nice statement that was made. I also really like seeing the support of the NAACP. It sends a good message to the members.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostPresident Nelson to national NAACP convention: We want to be 'dear friends'

I don't recall ever being specifically taught to invite someone to be baptized the first time we met them, but I do recall a couple of my companions trying that on a few occasions (never successfully). Also seem to recall Gene R. Cook (our Area President) telling stories about that approach working. We were definitely taught to extend the baptism invitation early and often, but not specifically in the first meeting.Originally posted by falafel View PostI specifically recall our Area President designing a door approach for us that included inviting to baptism. It was Elder Pinnock. That dude was a hard-ass. Elder Kikuchi, on the other hand, was a soft-touch.

Gene R Cook called me out for not fervently writing down his sage advice. Everyone else was scribbling down his words while I sat back with my hands behind my head. He asked in a very condescending tone, “do you need a pencil, Elder?” To which I responded, “Nope,” and continued to just stare at him. The mission pres was shooting me daggers with his eyes. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what his advice was now. Should have wrote it down so I could make fun of it 20 years later.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI don't recall ever being specifically taught to invite someone to be baptized the first time we met them, but I do recall a couple of my companions trying that on a few occasions (never successfully). I've watched this a couple of times. It's one of my favorite RMN speeches/talks. In light of today's political environment, this statement is so nice to see.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostPresident Nelson to national NAACP convention: We want to be 'dear friends'

Simply stated, we strive to build bridges of cooperation rather than walls of segregation.

Elder Richard G. Scott talked to us during a mission conference about the importance of writing down personal revelation. He said if the spirit had whispered something to us during the meeting, we should record that and focus on it. Otherwise, we'd leave the conference as "just another zone meeting."Originally posted by Sullyute View PostGene R Cook called me out for not fervently writing down his sage advice. It was probably a list of do's and don'ts from Mick Jagger.Originally posted by Sullyute View PostGene R Cook called me out for not fervently writing down his sage advice. You had never heard this story before? It has served as inspiration for me for years and my posting style is calculated to drive members of this board to sex. Thus far it's effectiveness has gone: poorly.Originally posted by MartyFunkhouser View PostPAC, I sincerely thank you for your post leading me to this gem. My life is better having read this.

More proof that funk was never really "in" the church. Or a member of this board, apparently.Originally posted by HBCoug View PostYou had never heard this story before? This is a great jab by Elder Cook:
Our conversation continued. He told me he believed in evolution and that he also believed he had descended from a monkey. I told him, with a smile, "That might be the only thing you're right about."Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure 75-80% of this board is having sex.Originally posted by HBCoug View PostYou had never heard this story before? Conclusions are forthcoming.Originally posted by All-American View PostYou mean, like, at this moment?"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.
