  • President Nelson to speak at NAACP national convention on Sunday
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

      • I think it's awesome that the Church has been engaging the NAACP in recent years, and I have no doubt that it is a sincere effort to bridge a gap created by our prior practices. I sincerely hope it is successful.

In addition, I would be elated if the Church also took the final conciliatory step of officially apologizing for past practices and acknowledging that the priesthood prohibition was cultural and not doctrinal.

But as long as Elder Oaks can't find the word "apologize" in the New Testament, I guess that won't happen.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Yeah, would love to see that happen.

Call me cynical all you want, but that is not happening and Oaks isn't the only reason that is never happening.

Whenever someone expresses some hope or optimism about the church, funk swoops in to piss on it. What a lovely way to live.

I can see it happening when my kids' generation is calling the shots.

Yes, I agree. I am glad our youngest is finishing up his eagle this year and I can find something else for him to do with his Wednesday nights.

i like funk as much as the next guy, but it's as if funk doesn't want the church to do any good because it would upset the narrative he's come to adopt over recent years.

It's easy. He can continue going to Young Men's.

I would be thrilled for the LDS church to do good. I'll acknowledge when they do good. I think the goat vending machine at Christmas was really quite cool and a good thing. I know a lot of people criticized the Affirmation donation, but I ultimately agree that it was a good thing that they did. I remember specifically commenting that it was a good thing when MoTab met with the San Francisco Gay Men's Choir.

This claim is a big part of the narrative.

                              Affirmation donation?

In July 2018, a donation was made by the church of $25,000.00 to Affirmation for LGBTQ suicide prevention training. There was some criticism, which I didn't agree with, that the donation should not have been tied to something specific and should have just been a general donation.
