"More meaningful roles" "Mormon society." Nice strategic wording. Do the women get a pat on the head, too, or is that extra?Originally posted by All-American View PostI'm actually very sympathetic to the idea that women should have more meaningful roles in Mormon society.
the only thing AA hasn't posted yet in this thread is that some of his best friends are women.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Whoa you got me there. Good point.Originally posted by Maximus View Posti love it when people complain about others lack of morality when they are spouting off nonsense.
Trust me your grandchildren will view this the same way you (hopefully) view blacks and the Priesthood. That's what makes AA's comparison to Donald Sterling so funny. It's Donald Sterling/the LDS Church saying: "I don't want you bringing black people/women to my Clippers games/Priesthood session."

you should concede that jumping on the Lebron James bandwagon while being a fan of your hometown team is also a dick move.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostTrue I plead temporary insanity for briefly thinking this would violate some type of ethical standard for lawyers.Fitter. I might quibble a bit on this. The first attempt wasn't a protest. The second attempt they were told in advance they wouldn't be admitted and they still went through with it. That sounds like a protest to me, or something very, very close to a protest. This is why I think the second attempt was far worse from the church's perspective as they directly went against the church's request and after some pressure the church relented a bit and allowed them on temple square.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostWhat Ordain Women did at GC was hardly a "protest"."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

It's not misogyny. Women just need to know their place, right?Originally posted by All-American View PostYou can use the word all you like. You and I both know it's the wrong word.
Everything the Church is doing right now reinforces the perception that they are putting women in their place. How do they not see how bad this makes them look?"The mind is not a boomerang. If you throw it too far it will not come back." ~ Tom McGuane

Orthodox believe they are treating women as God would have it. Thus it is their divine right to put them in their place.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Why is everyone jumping down the throat of the LDS church leadership for excommunicating two or three people, but no one is criticizing the Pope for excommunicating hundreds of people who are similarly giving his church some problems? Bit of a double standard, if you ask me.

Actually, there is no other religion that does what Mormons do in excommunication, Catholics included. Catholic sacraments are never cancelled, even with excommunication, not to mention the much quicker trigger we pull.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
