    This is just disheartening.

I thought the church had learned from their past mistakes.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

OW seems to be teaching against current church doctrine, whether you think that doctrine is wrong or not is another discussion.

Yes I am. I have enough believe left in the church that I don't want bad things to happen within it. I'm not out the door yet.

This won't register at all with active members who agree with church orthodoxy. Whether it was directed from on high (it seems a little suspicious), it doesn't matter. It is a shot across the bow for those who are active and silent supporters. For those outside the church, it just seems like the church took another step towards irrelevancy.

I admit to not having followed them too closely, so there is plenty I may have missed.

But it appears they are requesting and petitioning based upon readings of past history and the concept of evolutionary practices. Why is that necessarily teaching "against" something?

It is ironic that the Church, while craving positive press and which will excommunicate members for committing sins which are well known and give the Church bad press, will do something that gives it more bad press.

The problem with this is that the church seems to talk out of both sides of their mouth on equality and priesthood. Men and women are equal, but men preside. Women have the priesthood, but they don't hold an office in the priesthood. Every auxiliary is organized under and a function of the priesthood, but women don't exercise keys. Women represent roughly half the church (assumption) but only six women show up in the May Ensign centerfold, compared to 100 or so men. We have one of the largest and oldest women's organizations in the world, but the women leaders cannot call anyone to a position in it without a male's approval.

I think that the OW movement is simply calling BS on the leaderships statements. If we are equal then give us the priesthood. If we don't have the priesthood and equal representation then stop saying we are equal.

I might reconsider my decision if more women were included in a centerfold.

This is good news because now it's clear what the LDS Church is and people aren't going to decide to continue to be part of the LDS Church based on some delusion that it is something other than what it is (some of us have never been confused). If you're progressive from an individual liberty or civil rights standpoint, the LDS Church is a bad institution. It's that simple. And the 12, the President, etc. are bad people.

There it is, Mr. Monson, I dare you to excommunicate me for that.

I should add, if you're against same sex marriage and liberty for women I can understand why you think they're not bad.
