It's like we are all part of a law firm that has a policy that only men can be partners. One of the female associates is saying that policy is wrong and so she is being summarily fired. It defies all common sense and logic obviously for women not to have the priesthood, but all the more to punish a woman for simply pointing out the obvious discrimination and injustice and asking for a change.

I don't expect you to answer but just wanted to throw that out there and would love to hear you sum up your rationale for the church imposing "discipline" in a sentence or two.

Not sure what their job situation is, but it would be awesome of Kate's Bishop and Stake President lose their jobs over this. What an embarrassment for these guys -- if they have an ounce of moral sense or self-respect they would stop this nonsense.
i love it when people complain about others lack of morality when they are spouting off nonsense.

"More meaningful roles" "Mormon society." Nice strategic wording. Do the women get a pat on the head, too, or is that extra?

the only thing AA hasn't posted yet in this thread is that some of his best friends are women.

Whoa you got me there. Good point.

Trust me your grandchildren will view this the same way you (hopefully) view blacks and the Priesthood. That's what makes AA's comparison to Donald Sterling so funny. It's Donald Sterling/the LDS Church saying: "I don't want you bringing black people/women to my Clippers games/Priesthood session."

Okay. Fair enough. Will any of the priesthood leaders involved lose their jobs over this? Smart money says yes.

you should concede that jumping on the Lebron James bandwagon while being a fan of your hometown team is also a dick move.

If being on the Lebron James bandwagon is wrong then I don't want to be right!

I might quibble a bit on this. The first attempt wasn't a protest. The second attempt they were told in advance they wouldn't be admitted and they still went through with it. That sounds like a protest to me, or something very, very close to a protest. This is why I think the second attempt was far worse from the church's perspective as they directly went against the church's request and after some pressure the church relented a bit and allowed them on temple square.

It's not misogyny. Women just need to know their place, right?

Everything the Church is doing right now reinforces the perception that they are putting women in their place. How do they not see how bad this makes them look?

Orthodox believe they are treating women as God would have it. Thus it is their divine right to put them in their place.

Why is everyone jumping down the throat of the LDS church leadership for excommunicating two or three people, but no one is criticizing the Pope for excommunicating hundreds of people who are similarly giving his church some problems? Bit of a double standard, if you ask me.

Maybe because we are part of the Catholic Church?

Funny. I can see the meme coming here.

Actually, there is no other religion that does what Mormons do in excommunication, Catholics included. Catholic sacraments are never cancelled, even with excommunication, not to mention the much quicker trigger we pull.
