LOL. This sort of stuff is probably why you didn't win out on the #1 apostate award. You come off as a nice guy and well informed but I think your politics (sexual, purely political, whatever) may be a little out there for most LDS to take you seriously. Also, if you and Faith genuinely agree on this and she wouldn't have any problem with your "expensive and elaborate form of masturbation" then you have a relationship that stands apart from just about any that I have seen. I am reminded of a quote:

Tobias: You know, Lindsay, as a therapist, I have advised a number of couples to explore an open relationship where the couple remains emotionally committed, but free to explore extra-marital encounters.
Lindsay: Well, did it work for those people?
Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but.... it might work for us.

Actually, a move toward having sex with multiple women has been a hallmark of Mormon apostates for years. At least some have wanted to legitimize the relationship via marriage. It sounds like RF is only interested in his own personal gratification.

      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I honestly don't know what to do with this information. I don't know whether to be more suspect of the mindset of men I interact with who don't speak of women this way; I don't know what weight to apply to the term "many" above; and, if I assign any non-crackpot credence to this idea, I'm left with all manner of confusion re: what my place in this world.

Faith can do what she likes. I love her, but I don't own her. But it would break my heart if she didn't want to be my partner any more. I don't see a midnight cowboy as a threat.

One has to wonder if RF's hedonism is a phase he is going through. I.e., moving from a "restricted" environment to one in which there are no rules. I am guessing that he eventually finds some equilibrium somewhere.

To be very clear, I don't have affairs. I just don't judge people who do. There are all kinds of reasons why people do what they do, and the assumption that everyone is building a relationship on the same kind of foundation doesn't make sense to me.

Personally, I think I'd start to draw some unhappy inferences if my partner were just that supportive of me looking outside the marriage for sexual release. But that's just me.

I was talking about the sanitized version of prostitution that allowed us to discuss theoretical threats to relationships.

But if you want to talk about real prostitution, then I tend to agree with you.

                    That's awfully open-minded of you.

Do you judge people who commit abuse? I am curious how far you carry this.

I see problems with dishonesty and breach of trust. An affair will often be one of those things, but I won't assume that to be the case unless an offended party says so.

How would an affair (by definition), not involve dishonesty and a breach of trust?

If the affair took place in an open relationship.

Then it's not really an affair, is it?

What percentage of marriages have "open relationships"?

By that logic, maybe abuse cases involve a victim with masochistic fetishes. We shouldn't judge until the facts are in.
