  • So by when are they going to get his cattle? Shall we wager?

He's not going to get away with this forever, especially now that he's turned the entire free and civilized world against himself. He's such a hypocrit. He knows that the only reason he has his cattle or is even alive is that he's in the United States of America which has the ethos of tolerance he despises. What would Putin do?

Eventually the feds are going to come in and kick his red neck ass and take those cattle and auction them off and collect what he owes the federal government of this great pluralistic and tolerant nation. Probably it will happen when those cowboys gathered there get tired of this and have to go home and take care of their own livestock.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

A lot of these folks are unemployed. Trust me on this one.

But this raises an excellent question. Suppose you were in charge of deciding how to respond to this. What would you do? What would be your next move? The last thing you want is another Waco, but there has to be a response. Tough call.

How about they send in Harry Reid to negotiate a peaceful end to all of this? Someone with his vast leadership experience should be able to find a solution and save that little turtle.

        • Cliven was just speaking from his heart and Sean Hannity and Fox news would still love him if they just understood what's in his heart...

Though Sean Hannity and others at Fox News have denounced his comments on race, Cliven Bundy doesn’t think he’s lost friends at the network.

In an interview with CNN’s Bill Weir on Thursday night, the Nevada rancher said he thought he and Hannity are “right on” and that he hasn’t been “abandoned” by the network.

The CNN host suggested that Bundy had been abandoned at Fox News, something he said was apparent by the fact that the rancher was appearing on his network and not Fox.

“I don’t think I’ve been abandoned. I think maybe they misunderstood me a little bit,” Bundy said. “But I think Fox and I, I think, Hannity and I are just right on. I have no doubt that he would support me if he understood really what’s in my heart. And I think he does understand me.”

When Weir told Bundy that the Fox News host had in fact called his comments “despicable” and “repugnant,” Bundy responded: “I hope I’m not that way. I’ll tell you what, I’m not.”

In a somewhat unusual interview, Weir suggested it was ironic that Bundy often spoke about those who are dependent on the government when he has been grazing cattle on federal land, and said some might call him a welfare queen. Bundy responded, “I might be a welfare queen.”

Bundy, though, continued to back his comments on race, saying that he doesn’t understand why people are so upset and that his comments were “from the heart.”

LOL, you would have been one of the last people on here I would supsect would make a deragatory comment about the unemployed.

Perhaps though there are bad unemployed people and good unemployed people and we should be greatful for the "progressive class" in America who can point out the differences.

We should also be greatful to that group to let us know which laws are appropriate to follow and which aren't. When they get done with those heavy matters, I hope they will move on to let us know which foods we should be eating and which ones we shouldn't.

I see....so according to Bundy, if comments are "from the heart", they can't be racist?

To me the guy seems "ignorant and uneducated". I have seen that excuse used for all types of groups and people in the US and around the world. They don't know no better.

Whether he is a bona fide racist in the worst definition of the word, I don't know. However, in an educated and moral society, his words can only be considered racist. For purposes of clarifying so I don't get called a racist for not calling him a racist in the worst terms, I will say I do think he is.

I also think he is an old, white, raised conservative, red neck who hasn't come along with society. I can surely put blame on his children for not helping him arrive into the 21st century.

Simply noting that some people are unemployed is a "deragatory" comment about the unemployed? Please explain how that works.

And I made that comment because I know some of these people personally, you knucklehead.

Perhaps I am misjuding you for which this knucklehead humbly apologizes.

My perception is if I I commented on a group of women seeking the Priesthood, or a gay group protesting, or the 99% percent protesting against the 1% and I made the comment "a lot of these folks" (you said a lot, not some) "are unemployed, trust me". Your response to me would have not been kind.

                        • The Fate of Cliven Bundy within Mormonism

It's so difficult for me to hear Cliven evoking Delbert Stapley. (Cliven's remarks are clearly in the same vein.) All of this makes me feel like Mormonism has let him down.

I'm not saying that Mormonism deserves the blame. I'm saying that Mormonism hasn't helped when it could have.

As I see it, Mormonism is too busy waging its war on pornography and gays to help people like Cliven know what racism really is.

If Brother Bundy didn't learn racism in the Church, he certainly didn't UNLEARN it, especially considering the traditional Mormon thought process: "I don't hate black people. I'm not racist. I just think God didn't want them to have the priesthood for some unknown reason."

Imagine if we had a church that was good enough to apologize for its own racist past rather than spending so much of its general conference time on nonsense.

                          Will Cliven be disfellowshipped? Excommunicated?

I suspect he will. The I suspect he will join this board and rant and rave negatively about the mormon church.

I don't think it's ranting to point out that this man is the product of one of the most historically racist religions in America. Do you honestly think his thought processes aren't in some way related to the Church where he grew up? At a minimum, the Church has not helped him know what racism is.

EDIT: I think Cliven deserves his own thread, but the powers that be clearly disagree. Is this some sort of damage control?
