I am not suggesting the church is ruining peoples lives with their tithing process. I am suggesting they can make a hassle a lot easier for a lot of people by just doing what EVERY OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION DOES."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. It has become apparent that a man can, within limits, follow his inclinations within the arms of the Church if he does so discreetly." - The Walking Drum

If by "not long ago" you mean "less than two years ago" then I will offer additional anecdotal support.Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostNot long ago when I was doing this, we still had dial up in our building...talk about taking forever.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Shouldn't the church want to make it as easy as possible to donate??"Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. It has become apparent that a man can, within limits, follow his inclinations within the arms of the Church if he does so discreetly." - The Walking Drum

Its been 4 years for me but they (bishop and counselors) kept saying that they were moving to the internet instead of dialing in. I seriously doubt that has happened. I will ask on sunday.Originally posted by nikuman View PostIf by "not long ago" you mean "less than two years ago" then I will offer additional anecdotal support."Be a philosopher. This would've been late 2009 so...right around 2 years.Originally posted by nikuman View PostIf by "not long ago" you mean "less than two years ago" then I will offer additional anecdotal support."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I agree for the most part but I have to say it's hard for my little brain not to take note of some of the high outliers.Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostWhen I was the finance clerk, I had several of my friends in the ward come up to me and either say "so, I pay quarterly, so if you see my check and it's really big or really small, don't sweat it." Others flat out told me what they made to take the guesswork out of it. I found this to be incredibly odd. I think one of the great misunderstandings about the finance clerk calling is that they are sitting there taking copious notes (if only mentally) of how much other people in the ward make.
I had one guy come in for tithing settlement and he handed us a check for over 30K. In our area, that grabs your attention a bit.

That's certainly true...just as a big wad of cash grabs your attention when someone pays like that. I guess my point was just that for me at least it was mostly forgotten by the time I got home, and certainly never discussed with anyone.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI agree for the most part but I have to say it's hard for my little brain not to take note of some of the high outliers.

That is almost BYU71 tithing money! But I am sure that 71 donates in kind to save on capital gains.

The guy was CEO of a semi famous company (not an auto) and was sacked. That came from the golden parachute.Originally posted by Sullyute View Post

Wouldn't the credits in miles be an increase and, thus, be subject to tithes?Originally posted by Moliere View PostI've also heard they are close to having the systems capability to accept actual direct donations (instead of bill-pay checks being cut). Now if they would only accept AMEX cards so I could get credits back in miles.
