One more nice thing about subsidized tuition at BYU: it is a way that the Lord has been using to turn generations of apostasy around.
I have seen instances of Utah grads sending their kids to BYU to avoid out of state Utah tuition. Some of these families have been UofU grads for generations, but the subsidized tuition is a tool in breaking this cycle.

You mean the $1.4B over the 26 years between 1985-2011? https://www.lds.org/bc/content/share...fact-sheet.pdfOriginally posted by falafel View PostWhat about humanitarian aid?
After it was reported negatively in the press, they have since stopped reporting the number. Rather than add transparency and provide more data to rebut those that pointed out how small $1.4B over 26 years actually is compared to their income, they chose to stop reporting the number.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

I have friends who are Utes and their kids have gone to BYU. The kids are Ute fans. Perhaps before they get subsidized they should swear some kind of oath.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostOne more nice thing about subsidized tuition at BYU: it is a way that the Lord has been using to turn generations of apostasy around.

BYU provides a great education. Interesting how many of the progmos on this site are willing to hand out other peoples money to help the poor and those with less. Income inequality. They are all for subsidy programs. However when it comes to good grades and ACT scores no one is willing to share those with the less fortunate who do not get the good grades.
Also the idea that the churches best and brightest go to BYU and are the future leaders of the church is a bit arrogant and why many find BYU and those who profess elitism a bit hard to take.
The brightest might go to BYU, but I would be careful limiting the best to BYU. The best in the church are everywhere and some of them even have U of U degrees.
Oh and the subsidy program at BYU is why I pay on the net instead of gross.Last edited by byu71; 09-30-2015, 09:57 AM.

Changing the subject? Huh?Originally posted by byu71 View PostI swear, you really are ex-Ute. No two people can be as good at changing the subject.
How about if you help us out, amigo? Please explain how being in favor of the BYU tithing-subsidy means that we are not willing to support subsidies for kids who go to other schools. Feel free to provide links and quotes from this thread."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

You first. Show me the quote where I said they are not willing to? Don't quote what you think I meant, give the quote. I think I said "progmos are all for subsidy programs".Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostChanging the subject? Huh?

What does sharing good grades have to do with subsidizing schools through taxes?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHere is the rest of that quote. I will bold it for you to help you find it:
I will eagerly look forward to your answer and then like with ex-ute, I will drop the argument and let you feel like your right if you have that need.
Oh and if you are making sublte shots at me, step up your game. They haven't even made me feel like responding in kind.
