  • i was sitting in the foyer yesterday and one of the new members of the bishopric came up to me and shook my hand. He then asked how "everything was going." I told him everything was great. He then gave me a finger snap-finger point combo and as he walked away, said "well deserved."

Coincidentally, in an email conversation this weekend with a couple of friends who are far more highly placed in Church leadership than I, they revealed their favored gesture was the wink and finger point combo, coupled with the declaration, "Don't go changin'". I'll pass this along as a worthy alternative.

        • I'm a handshake, switch to a 'bro grip, accentuated by a pull in closer with a verbal "hold to the rod" kind of guy. But the finger snap, pointy finger, well deserved reply is a worthy consideration.

Just when I finally got to like you, I suddenly hate you again.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Dang... I was just going to ask you to go the the Vegas airport and get my daughters jacket that she left this afternoon. I guess such a request it would be in vain now.

Just so we're on the same page... you do some kind of hand jive nonsense, then pull people in close to you and tell them to "hold to the rod?" Do I have that right?

In my defense I don't do it to men... only to women. Specifically, younger women who "get me." What? You think I'm some sort of weirdo?

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

                    • A fellow assigned to speak on the 5th Article of Faith swerved into a scripted condemnation of the state of our nation and called it an "Obama-nation" (making a play on words of "Abomination.")

I certainly wouldn't want to hear an entire talk built on this stuff. Should I say something to him?

Definitely say something to him. Totally inappropriate thing to say at church.

Might be funny while shooting the breeze with some friends of like mind, but definitely not in church.

                          • The fact that it was scripted is what makes it so egregious. Shows premeditation. He cant claim that the spirit prompted him while he was standing at the pulpit.
