There is an official script. Not everyone follows it.

    Sustaining

When presenting a person for a sustaining vote, an authorized priesthood officer asks him or her to stand. The officer may say

“[Name] has been called as [position], and we propose that he [or she] be sustained. Those in favor may manifest it by the uplifted hand. [Pause briefly for the sustaining vote]. Those opposed, if any, may manifest it.” [Pause briefly to allow for a dissenting vote, if any]

    Releasing

An authorized priesthood officer may say:

“[Name] has been released as [position], and we propose that he [or she] be given a vote of thanks for his [or her] service. Those who wish to express their appreciation my manifest it by the uplifted hand.” [No dissenting vote is called for]

I learned that some people fixate on the quality of the bread and the amount of water in the cup when they get the sacrament.

It says "may" so I guess it isn't an official script, it is more like an example. I assume that is from the CHOI? 1 or 2?

            Fixate? Poss.

have you ever taken a piece of obviously crappy stale bread? One of my peeves. Don't use your old freezer burned bread when it is your turn to bring it. We had some lousy bread today for sac. Conversely, a nice piece of fresh bread? Tasty reverence.

One must either be an attorney, a ref or an engineer to be in leadership because nobody else would fixate upon such meaningless details and memorize rule books.

which version is common in your neck of the woods? I'm not sure I've ever heard today's version, at least not enunciated so distinctly.
Well because of me in my ward it is usually "raising the right hand".

I learned that Russell should be a good pickup for the Lakers and that Okafor can't play defense. Sometimes Sunday School in the hall is much better than SS in the classroom.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

The amount in the water cup matters because if you have half of a cup or less, there's barely any water. If you want to have any reasonable amount of water, fill up the cup!

I learned that giving a farewell address did not slow down my nephew's speaking cadence. He's going to Iowa, Marshallese speaking. That may slow him down.

I like the generic "uplifted hand" request. It allows me to do this for my sustaining vote:

Our Sunday School teacher's son just returned from his mission. On the flight home he had a layover in Atlanta, where he and the 3 elders traveling with him ran into Elder Bednar.

Elder Bednar gave them some advice - which primarily focused on not looking back. You have to keep looking and moving forward.

After hitting on that for a few minutes, he gave them one last bit of bonus advice before sending them on their way: "Don't grow a beard".

I wish we could get some modern revelation clarification on this. At what moment does scruff become beard?
