Or at the very least, get up and formally announce on Open Mic Sunday that you won't be attending anymore? Otherwise, I left the church on Sunday, too. A bit later than I had hoped, as there were a lot of donations to enter, but I eventually left. I'll probably go back tonight for basketball, but then I'm leaving again.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Out of town this past Sunday and next week too. I have left our church for three weeks.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostOr at the very least, get up and formally announce on Open Mic Sunday that you won't be attending anymore? I leave the church way too much every week
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I should have my name removed from the Sunday School rolls just to make it official. Do you have to send a letter to SLC for that?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYou keep using the expression "left the church". Seems awfully dramatic. Have you asked for your name to be removed or something?

Don't worry. They haven't taken roll in Sunday School for many years.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostI should have my name removed from the Sunday School rolls just to make it official. LOL, I am like the guys who change political parties. I didn't leave the republicans, they left me.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostI should have my name removed from the Sunday School rolls just to make it official. Do you have to send a letter to SLC for that?
In reality, I haven't left anything. Like I told my boys, a lot of people hold a card that let's them get into big fancy buildings, but I don't judge people based on whether they have the card or not. Too many of those carrying a card aren't too honest with church authorities or their fellow man.
By saying too many do this, don't assume I am saying most. I would guess most card carriers are good honest people.

Not everybody who identifies as "exmormon" resigns formally. Some people just stop going as an intentional but unspoken act. Others communicate it directly to leadership. But they still all identify as having left and/or as being exmormon.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYou keep using the expression "left the church". Seems awfully dramatic. You know this already, of course.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I was the Sunday School president many years ago when the directive came down from SLC that we no longer were expected to take roll in SS. However, the letter was worded such that it implied that units could continue to take roll if they wanted to, but the data would not be officially recorded anywhere. Our bishop thought it would be a good idea to keep taking roll. It took some effort, but I talked him out of it.Originally posted by thesaint258 View PostThey do in ours. I'm pretty convinced that it's so that the Sunday School presidency has something to do other than ring the bell.
You may as well have your SS Pres break up a pile of rocks. Equally pointless activity."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I didn't know about that directive, but it doesn't surprise me. I agree with you that it's pointless. Half of the time, the roll doesn't even make it all the way around the room.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI was the Sunday School president many years ago when the directive came down from SLC that we no longer were expected to take roll in SS.
