I'm glad you are here to offer this brilliant insight. Thanks.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostThat probably has something to do with the way the talks are assigned. Just guessing."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I certainly didn't read Sully's post as an argument for causation. And I didn't read Jacob's as a defense.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostI do disagree with you. I didn't look at porn before I left the Church, and it never occurred to me to look at it after i left the Church. People leave the Church because they lose their testimonies or because they don't feel they belong anymore.
And to say you were not arguing causation is a cop out. You were defending a comment that obviously argued that there was causation. I just did the math."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

that's probably true of nearly all returned missionaries, atheist or not.Originally posted by Sullyute View PostI learned in combined meeting that every returned missionary who is now an athiest looks/looked at porn.

I'm sorry you miss read me so badly. it's clear there's nothing I can say to convince you. but I'll say it anyway, I've never argued in favor of sin as causation for leaving the church, but I have argued against it on this site. I am among the least Orthodox people here. perhaps you should read my posts with that in mind rather than jumping to conclusions which are not warranted.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostI do disagree with you. For our 5th Sunday lesson, we had several of the members of our ward that volunteered to go up to New Jersey and help out after Hurricane Sandy talk about their experiences with it. It was pretty cool."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Departing missionary used the word "crap" three times in his talk and talked about how video games helped him prepare for his mission. Four excellent talks. I am tempted to skip the last two meetings so I can go home on a high note."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I don't think Sully argued that there was causation. But I got the impression that the person at Church probably did. As for Jacob, if his point wasn't to defend the position of the person at Church, then I apologize to him. It seemed to me he was implying that most returned missionaries who leave the Church look at porn. As someone who has left the Church, that offended me. Again, if I'm wrong I apologize.Originally posted by Pelado View PostI certainly didn't read Sully's post as an argument for causation. I didn't imply that, I stated it directly. You are a moving target. I think most men have looked at porn. I doubt I am wrong.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostI don't think Sully argued that there was causation. But I got the impression that the person at Church probably did.
