2013: The Year of the Missionary. Meade year will have more missionary related items than any year in the history of the gospel and baptisms will be "off the charts".
That is a great talk. Thanks for link. I would kill to have a stake president like that.
When I Googled the speaker, among other results was an ex-Mo website that included a few derisive comments ridiculing the talk. But they were unintentionally funny in that they mocked the guy's intellect for following "his mommy's" advice, suggesting the guy was a dope. I hate intellectual or spiritual condescension between skeptics and the faithful (and that applies to both sides), but I had to laugh when, after reading the criticisms, I found the a vita about the speaker, a very impressive guy.

lol. Yeah a real dummy that guy.
Geez, that resume makes me feel like a slacker.

The more likely cause of returned missionaries becoming atheists is that they stop praying, since atheists don't pray. Or that they stop going to church...that also causes atheism. Drinking coffee probably has something to do with it as well.

I don't think anyone mentioned causation. Certainly not the post I responded to. Do you disagree with me? Probably not, I presume.
The more likely cause is that as they went to law school or some other cynical profession
Is there an official, statement from the First Presidency, definition of what "porn" is. Myriad of talks are given on the evils of porn. Before I can agree or disagree with the speaker, I would like to know the speakers definition of porn.
I once saw on CB someone call signs on billboards in Vegas porn. I disagree and was somewhat surprised with responses. A couple even telling me my attitude was a step toward apostacy.
Unless there is a definition, I think all this talk and warnings given is then left up to the person who is listening and I don't know how really useful it is to the body of the church as a whole.
That said, I do think someone who got into watching what I call pornography, viewing the act of sex in pictures or movie or video will have a harder time staying in contact with the gospel than say the WOW or Sabbath Day non participant.
Is that any different from any other month? Don't forget that this is a church where Easter gets bumped in favor of conference.
It's no different, but I thought at least December would be different. I think I even posted a similar finding last year. Something truly is amiss in my sacrament meetings. Maybe it's me?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
I do disagree with you. I didn't look at porn before I left the Church, and it never occurred to me to look at it after i left the Church. People leave the Church because they lose their testimonies or because they don't feel they belong anymore.
And to say you were not arguing causation is a cop out. You were defending a comment that obviously argued that there was causation. I just did the math.

I learned that out of 5 sacrament meetings in December, only the musical Christmas program had a theme that was centered on Christ. We've learned about tithing, family, and the importance of church traditions.
That probably has something to do with the way the talks are assigned. Just guessing.

Third hour was a doozy today. After a nifty intro to the new youth curriculum, it turned into a lecture/guilt trip for low stake conference attendance. After a plea from the stake clerk and a diatribe from one woman about how everybody should be as righteous as she is (my wife could not contain her giggles at this point), they asked why people aren't coming. One brave and orthodox soul said that it was because the stake meetings had a negative spirit of criticism, just like this meeting. My piece having been pretty much said by him, I walked out and engaged in unrestrained foyerism.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
