Embarrassing things you did as an uber Mormon

I passed up a free opportunity to see Rage Against the Machine b/c I was leaving on my mission in a month and didn't think it was appropriate.

Remember when NIN came to Salt Lake in 96 or so and they (allegedly) tore a Book of Mormon apart on stage? I remember thinking judgmental thoughts about people I knew that went to that concert.

After getting home off the mish, I got in a major fight with my dad about watching The Matrix.

I refused to speed for a few years because it was breaking the law and hence breaking a commandment.

I still can count the rated R movies I have seen on one hand.

That's about it. I'm publicly pretty chill.

My brothers rented The Matrix the day I returned home. We watched it that night. I think my little brother told me it was R but gave me that funny "it was rated PG-13 in some states" or whatever argument.

I don't regret watching it, it was a great movie (much better than the other two in the series).

My family made me watch it within a week of getting home too. I felt a little odd about the whole thing, but these were my parents. My mom, at least, freaked out before my mission when she discovered that I owned a VHS copy of Grosse Point Blank. Now she's pressuring me to watch an R-rated movie...?

I was confused. I had to watch the movie again a few months later to really appreciate it.

That was Marilyn Manson. I believe NIN may have been on tour with him at the time, but that for sure was Manson.

And apparently, he went so far as to BURN one on stage just this last year.

That might be right. This would have been about the time when Marylin Manson would have opened for NIN.

This reminds me of one. I don't know if this is me being an uber Mormon, or just showing an unhealthy deference to leaders. In my last interview with my mission president, I asked him whether he thought it would be appropriate for me to listen to secular music on the airplane on the way home.

Okay. I may be on crack with this one, but I SWEAR the first Matrix WAS PG-13 when it was released, but they later changed the rating or changed it when it came out on DVD... Am I nuts? Does anyone else remember this?

Wood? That's nothing. You need to be fearful of the day your son finds out what blueballs are. Embarrassment is nothing compared to that pain.

The only part I remember was when Jean Claude jumped up to avoid something and ended up doing the splits on the counter. I remember Letterman doing a pretty good parody of it.

When I was a stupid teenager, I told a young LDS woman who was pro-choice that her stance constituted support of an organization that was adverse to the Church or the Church's doctrine and she wouldn't be allowed to go to the temple until she was pro-Life. Funny since I now believe the Church's position to be a pro-Choice stance.
