Embarrassing things you did as an uber Mormon

This is for both current (c'mon, I'm sure there have been times in your life when you were more uber/orthodox than you are now) and former Mormons -- what's the most embarrassing (embarrassing to admit now I mean) thing you did to try to elevate your spirituality? Mine is that right after I got home from my mish I thought farting in front of another person equated to "loud laughter" which was to be avoided. Ugh, how embarrassing, I even gave a buddy a hard time for doing it. Thankfully that only lasted a couple of weeks, but still a couple of weeks too long.

I wrote "Bill Clinton" in my copy of the Book of Mormon in several places where it talks about the leader "deceiving the people."

"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

I had resolved myself on my mission to watching only PG and G movies. Two weeks after returning from my mission, a group of friends and I planned a date to buy a bunch of cheap sofas from the DI and haul them out to the desert, where we'd set them up and watch a movie on a TV powered by a generator. It ended up being a huge group of people (like 20 couples) and I showed up with my PG movie options. There was a lot of bellyaching by some of the guys (and their dates) when I insisted that we watch one of the movies I brought, and not Mission Impossible 2. I won out, and we watched What About Bob, much to the chagrin of many. (Little did they know, What About Bob was WAAAAAAAY better than MI2, which I saw a few years later after my resolve wore off). I think my date was kind of embarrassed to be with the guy who caused so much hassle.

On a side note, I went out of my way to go by the movie store and pick up a couple PG options that morning before work. The movie ended and the generator ran out of gas almost simultaneously, so they couldn't get my video out of the VCR. 6 months later i got word from Hollywood Video that I was being sent to collections for never returning What About Bob (I had completely spaced it). I called them up and, after much haggling, ended up paying a ridiculous price to have them remove the charges and fees. A few months later, the guy whose VCR we were using brought the movie by my house and it is now a part of my seldom-viewed VHS collection.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I told some investigators that it was very important that they believe in the existence of the devil so that they could also believe in God. (I basically laid out this crappy line of reasoning that I got from a GA.)

Experimenting with alcohol and being an uber mormon is not a good combination. After imbibing with my date, she and I ventured into touching that was inappropriate.

After a while and still not in full control of my senses, I made her kneel down with me and ask for forgiveness. I didn't feel comfortable on dates with this gal nor comfortable praying for a few weeks.

I can't honestly think of any religious "extremism" that I've been guilty of. Feel free to link counter-evidence.

Hot chick I liked in high school asked ME out to a movie with some of her friends. When we got to the theatre I forced them to go to a PG or G flick (can't remember which one though I remember thinking it was really dumb) instead of the movie everyone else wanted to see.

While in the MTC, I wrote a letter to Wayne Hussey (lead singer of The Mission) and asked him to come back to the Church. I tracked down his family's home address from a friend that worked in the MTC.

Years later, I graduate from law school and move to OC. Wayne Hussey is living there (odd since he and his band are all from the UK) and I run into him at a record store one day. We spent a brief amount of time chatting and I told him that I once sent him a letter (as well as one to his sister) while I was on my mission. He said, "thanks mate, but I don't think I ever got it."

I did a dramatic reading for our floor devotional at DT my first year. I don't know which speech it was, could have been King Benjamin, but it was from the BOM. I have always felt like a tool over that.

I also remember taking a girl from high school on a date to a local park and out on a row boat (which doesn't totally compute because I had a gf, maybe we were on the outs) anyway, I told her about the church etc. She was a brilliant individual (still is actually) and very pointedly asked me whether she would now go to hell if she rejected my church, now having been told about it. I told her yes. I reconnected with her on facebook many years later and it was the first things she mentioned. Fortunately with that one I got a chance to take it back and have a laugh about it.

I wish I had something to contribute to this thread as I've found it thoroughly enjoyable. I'll have to meditate deeply and see if some memory comes to mind.
