Maybe my feeble mind just doesn't understand the nuances or the high stakes of these cultural battles, but to me it simply comes down to whether or not I am entertained by the product. If I think a particular political message comes before the story and I think it's boring, I just won't watch. I won't spend my energy on fighting over it.

The Star Wars sequels were awful so I don't watch them beyond the first viewing. Simple as that.

      • Just finished Rings of Power. It's OK. Long stretches of boring made it a bit of a slog. I still think people caught up in making this show about the culture wars are wrong. Only one overtly modern day political analog (the elves will take our jobs), but it was pretty cringe. The storytelling isn't my cup of tea. The focus on the writers seemed to be keeping the audience constantly guessing with an abundance of mysteries. I think plot twists and surprises are great, but you have to equally focus on developing characters I care about (i.e. seasons 1-4 of GOT). The season relied too much on mysteries to hold it together. I really don't care much for the characters tbh.

We watched most of one episode. Not too anxious to finish.

          • My 13- and 15-year-old daughters really enjoyed Catherine called Birdy. I thought it was good, too, but it didn't have me doing belly laughs like it did for them at times.

My wife said she enjoyed Mrs. Harris goes to Paris more than she expected. I also liked it quite a bit. Fun characters.

My Name Is Salt - interesting the lengths they go to harvest salt. It seems quite a bit like primitive farming. Moves very slowly.

I wanted to like LOTR so badly but so often I felt this cheesy familiarity and I finally realized it reminded me of church produced movies. I tapped after 3 episodes. I have a co-worker who is a massive LOTR fan and he claims Amazon is so disappointed that they are actually considering blowing the whole thing up and starting over. I haven't seen or heard that anywhere else but he's adamant its true.

This update from Amazon last week shows new actors added to season 2.

I'm a huge Tolkien fan. I liked this series, but I think the writing could have been better. Hopefully they make some adjustments moving forward.

I really like Jackson's movies, but hated the Hobbit films--so dumb.

What's strange is how Warner Bros own some of the rights to LOTR and Amazon owns other rights. That too is dumb.

I watched the whole thing with my son but it was a slog. Bad writing, bad acting, yada yada. Huge disappointment.

                  • If you are a fan of comedy at all, do yourself a favor and watch "Jury Duty." Seriously the funniest thing I've seen in a while.

The premise is a documentary crew films a jury during trial and deliberations. Except the trial is not real and everyone in the show is an actor except one random guy named Ronald who thinks it is a real trail and documentary. One of the members of the jury is James Marsden playing himself. It gets wild. I won't spoil things, but I'll just say that there is an episode where a character learns about "soaking" and James Marsden ends up jumping on the bed.

I really liked it too. I think there's a thread around here somewhere? I can't remember. The part where James Marsden helps the mormon-y guy soak with the stoner girl is hilarious.

                      • I enjoyed it quite a bit. I watched the series and then watched the bonus episodes with the behind-the-scenes commentary. I didn't recognize Marsden from anything at first. One of my favorite moments is the look of real deflation on his face when Ronald tells him that he heard Sonic wasn't very good.

I thought the judge was really good.

I refuse to watch anything on Frevee. I loved the Bosch series, but when they moved the new iteration over to Frevee, I was done.

                              • The writing/plot of the latest Jack Ryan is beyond stupid. Semi-interestingly, "Mormons" and the good old fashioned quad scriptures play a part in the plot.
