Not buying it:Originally posted by Flystripper View PostTheories on who is the CIA mole. I think this one is interesting:
Spoiler for Homeland conspiracy theories:
Saul is quite possibly dirty:
1. Earlier in the season he tied up a loose end when he left his glasses in the interview room so an imprisoned terrorist could kill herself.
2. If you know who will be at the memorial service, you know you ascend to the top of the CIA, a position which may be more powerful than the Presidency.
3. In his interaction with Carrie he offers her a head post that Estes would never go along with and she says as much....his response "don't worry about Estes" or something to that effect.
4. He doesn't drop the smartest dumb person line until Carrie declines to go with him to see off Nazir's body, thereby sentencing herself to death.
5. I know many people may have had the confession video, but we know for sure that he did, and his insistence on keeping Brody alive as cover is key.
6. It's not a coincidence that he asked forensics to check out the c4 to ensure it was the same c4 from the news crew plot, thus putting a nice little bow on the whole thing.
7. As a bonus, he gets his wife back as a result of all of this.
Spoiler for CIA Mole:
I admit that I was perturbed that he was so sloppy, but still I am not understanding what the loose end here is. She didn't know who he was and never even hinted at it during their interaction that I recall.Originally posted by Homeland conspiracy theories

Why does Saul want Estes' position? I understand this line of thinking but someone needs to convince me why Saul would want to be director first.2. If you know who will be at the memorial service, you know you ascend to the top of the CIA, a position which may be more powerful than the Presidency.
Saul loves Carrie so much that he's going to preserve Carrie, the one person who could and would bring Saul down, by taking out Estes and giving her a cush job abroad? Doesn't make sense at all.3. In his interaction with Carrie he offers her a head post that Estes would never go along with and she says as much....his response "don't worry about Estes" or something to that effect.
See my response to quote 4. Why would Saul risk his own "ambition/revenge/insert whatever conspiracy laden motivation here" to save Carrie? She is the one person smart enough to sniff out his plot and take him out.4. He doesn't drop the smartest dumb person line until Carrie declines to go with him to see off Nazir's body, thereby sentencing herself to death.
I am not sure what this has to do with anything and seems a far reach for wanting to keep Brody alive. If anything it was consistent with Saul's personality and conviction.5. I know many people may have had the confession video, but we know for sure that he did, and his insistence on keeping Brody alive as cover is key.
This is what any analyst would look at first. Find out where it came from and see if it is the same. And if this is some nice little bow tie, suppose it is the same C4 captured from the news crew? The CIA had possession of that. Why would Saul want to attract attention to something that had to be removed out of evidence and placed in a government vehicle. Which leads us to another issue. For Saul to be the mole, he couldn't have acted alone. Taking the C4. Planting it in Brody's car. Moving Brody's car. Detonating the car. All while he is attending Nazir's burial at sea. This neat little conspiracy just got blown up to nearly unmanageable proportions.6. It's not a coincidence that he asked forensics to check out the c4 to ensure it was the same c4 from the news crew plot, thus putting a nice little bow on the whole thing.
An elaborate ploy to win back the love of his life from India? LOL. That is as silly as Brody and Carrie romping around like teenagers.7. As a bonus, he gets his wife back as a result of all of this.
I told Gidget during season 1 that Saul could be the mole. And he very well could be. But it would kill the show (at least for me) if he is.
First, Saul isn't director material. He's idealistic. He's by the book. He's unwilling to do what it takes. And yet at the same time been insubordinate. He's never been a power hungry guy or political. Why would he want any of that now? It makes little sense from what the show has revealed about him. Even Dar Adal said that he was always too sensitive. He's always been led by his moral compass. Maybe in that regard I should cut him some slack over the Brody assassination plot. How would he handle the clandestine operations? He couldn't, wouldn't.
Second, if he is selected to replace Estes, why would he want that job? It wouldn't fall to him by default. That's as ridiculous as Brody coming home, becoming a congressman right away and then a VP candidate. But what would the directorship give him that he needs/wants?
I think what will likely happen here is power struggle between Saul and Dar Adal and the future of the CIA. Adal's introduction wasn't just a bit part IMO. I think he'll play a large role next season. With the CIA rebuilding and the shock of the attack at Langley, I think you'll see Saul's vision clash with Adal's. There will be a massive manhunt for Brody. He needs to die. He can't be vindicated now even if innocent. And we'll see Carrie wrestling with her participation in his escape and her responsibility to catch him. At least that is what I would like to see happen.
For Saul to be the mole would be too much of a turn and twist. If everything that has been presented about his character thus far is true, then he can't be. It doesn't mean he won't be. Script writers have written worse plots before. In fact, I could very easily see him being the mole but I agree with Jacob, at that point this show would be shredded of any credibility. It would be twist for twist's sake and the show would take a major detour from what made it great initially, the threat of terrorism on domestic soil from a ghost."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Dudes the moral center of the show. They can't make him the mole, they just can't. That would be like having sandy cohen cheat on kirsten.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postagreed but there is a mole and he is a possibility. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

My wife and I became addicts and watched the entire first season using iTunes downloads. Now we've subscribed to Showtime just in time to watch/record the encore showings of Season 2 on Monday nights (it started this week). If we don't want to wait a week between episodes is there a quicker way to watch them? I know the Showtime on-line option expired Monday and now Season 1 is available there.

Anyone else watch the Season 3 premiere on Sunday?
Spoiler for Premiere Spoiler:Gosh dammit Saul. I can't believe he turned on Carrie. I said if he turns and is the mole I'd be done, but I can't quit yet because I have to believe it was because of some grand picture and he'll explain it all away in the end. Like Gracie said, dude is the moral compass of the show. I was pretty pissed after that premiere."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

She suffers from mental illness and is self medicating with alcohol to fuel her mania. And I don't think it is a stretch to think that surviving the explosion at Langley while letting Brody go wouldn't turn her into a basket case again. I did tell Gidget that I no longer care for Brody's family and that story arc. I'll miss looking at Brody's wife but that is about it. Looks like next week we get Brody. I am interested to see where he ended up and how in the world he got out of the country."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I don't think it was unbelievable that he would put the blame where it belonged in order to save the CIA. That seems in character for him. I am concerned though about the prospect of him being a mole. That would be a bad move, in my opinion ... and the writers have shown that they aren't above making such bad moves last season.

I agree that I don't care about Brody's family anymore. I don't see why there are still part of the show. Certainly Brody can't come back and be involved with them. If they turn the daughter into a terrorist, that would be just dumb, IMO. But that's the only angle I can see where there would be any reason to put so much focus on the family in the first 2 episodes.
