I’m interested in this, but read countless negative reviews on IMDb on the uber woke plot and ending for season one. Is it as bad as they make it out to be?"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

It's definitely not uber woke, at least by my standards, although the first season focuses on right-wing, xenophobic nationalists, and certain elites who cynically use those hatreds to their advantage. Given your experience, I just skimmed a couple dozen IMDB reviews and didn't see any comments of the type you described, but perhaps I'd need to look at reviews older than those from the past three months... Mrs. PAC agrees, although she said some might be offended by the profanity--she wasn't, but then the F-word doesn't faze her much when it's spoken with a British accent. Give it a shot. You'll know within a couple of episodes if it's your cuppa tea. Gary Oldman alone makes it worth it.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Bad Sisters is entertaining. It's a drama/comedy that's a bit hard to describe. Essentially it's about a sketchy life insurance investigation into the death of a man that was despised by everyone around him including his sisters-in-law. All of the 4 sisters are great actors and if you enjoyed Catastrophe you'll recognize one of them. One of the life insurance "investigators" is from Peaky Blinders. Well written and acted, it's an easy recommendation.

Here is the joke. Rob McElhenney and Megan Ganz don't like the name Mythic Quest. They tried to use many other names first. They joke all the time about people saying that name sounding like Mr. Quest or being misheard as Mr. Quest.Originally posted by falafel View Post

Just finished the first season. After the first couple of episodes I was ready to cut my losses. Glad I didn't. Interesting characters and a serviceable plot. Gary Oldman is very good in it. Looking forward to season 2 after that big cliffhanger.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View Post

We watched the first episode. Really struggling to find enough interest to watch the second. People working together in an organization can't be this universally cynical, condescending, and loathsome, can they?Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

I liked the first half of the second season even more, but was a little disappointed by the implausibilities as the season progressed. Still, we both enjoyed it and are looking forward to S3.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

The cynicism toward government agencies is very British. There are a few redeeming characters (e.g. River Cartwright and Catherine Standish), but the Oldman and Thomas characters are pretty much irredeemable. Skipping the series wouldn't be a terrible mistake, but you might get into it if you watch another episode or two. And one has to appreciate a TV show with an original theme song (which provides a pretty good summary of the show) sung by Mick Jagger.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
