  • The Peanuts movie. My kids didn't love it. I don't blame them.

      • Creed was good. I wouldn't say it was great, but pretty good.

Avon Barksdale plays Duke's son who refuses to train Adonis. I love how these guys say they weren't planning on a sequel, yet they have a bit part for Duke's son played by a recognizable actor. Then you add in Rocky going through chemo and you can bet Avon will be in the next film.

Andre Ward plays the #2 fighter who's trained by Avon.

This movie was made for $35 million and will probably clear 2-3 hundred million worldwide. So expect to see a sequel in a couple years.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

        • I'm fine with Rocky sequels. I mean-- all the movies are basically the same, but damned if they're not fun.

I think if you go in focused on the 94% tomatometer rating, the reviews here, etc. you won't be able to help but be let down. If you go in fresh after watching the s#it show that was Rocky V, you'll be on Creed.

          • Tell No One - Great French thriller about a doctor who receives an email appearing to show his 8-years-deceased wife alive and well. Police find two bodies near the scene of the old crime and re-open the case, making the doctor their prime suspect. Second time seeing this one, really like it. Great cast, particularly François Cluzet as the doctor. Makes it feel like each minor character is a real person with their own story. I particularly like the gangster-type that helps the doctor out to repay an old favor.

Man from UNCLE - Not great, but I enjoyed it -- despite including 1) the dumbest, most unnecessary flashback sequence I've ever seen and 2) the worst German accent ever hinted at, courtesy of Alicia Vikander, who seemed periodically to make half-hearted efforts only to totally give up on it quickly in each scene. I would see a sequel, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

            • My 15-year old son insisted on going to a late showing of Krampus last night. Pretty weird crowd and I was thinking WTF are we doing here but I thought it was pretty good and my son loved it. Reviews compare it to Goonies and that's about right. I was entertained.

              • SPOTLIGHT - One of the best movies I've seen in several years, although it was right up my alley. As others have said, very similar to All The President's Men. I was captivated throughout the entire movie, which is something I haven't been able to say about too many movies recently.

                • Ridiculous 6. It was about what you would expect. The best parts were Vanilla Ice as Mark Twain and Taylor Lautner doing the running man while hanging from a noose.

Yes it was ridiculous indeed. I was surprised that Vanilla Ice was the highlight of the movie.

Watched about 30 minutes of it. I laughed a couple of times but it was not interesting enough to make me close the laptop and focus on the movie. Wife and i both got bored and decided to watch something else.

                      • American Ultra - Terrible. Exactly the movie that you should expect based on the elevator pitch "What if Jason Bourne had his memory wiped and became a [really annoying] shut-in pothead?" Felt like every actor in it was pushed into performing as their worst, shrillest self. Nothing in it makes sense. This is the kind of movie where they send guys in easily handled pairs to defeat a super-human killing machine, and in which drones appear to be available to the CIA solely at the whim of Gary Walsh. A movie with Walter Goggins, Tony Hale, Connie Britton, and John Leguizamo in supporting roles should not be this bad.

Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl - Somewhat stereotypical indie movie teen who spends his free time making take-offs of famous movies with his pseudo-friend befriends a classmate with cancer. Okay. Don't go out of your way to see it, but not a bad movie. Also squanders Connie Britton.

Brooklyn - Saoirse Ronan immigrates to Brooklyn from Ireland in the 1950s and falls in love with an Italian guy. Well made and well acted. Not a Great Movie, but easily better than either of the above. A bit slow (I probably couldn't sit through it again), but worth seeing. Nice to see a movie in which basically all the characters of note are largely good, likable people.
