Creed: Very well done. A bit cheesy and predictable at times, but what Rocky movie isn't? The boxing scenes were extraordinary. I really like the camera work from the locker room to the ring and the continuous camera shots during each round. Kind of reminded me of the same technique used in Birdman...although more effectively used in Creed. I'd probably put it as the 2nd best Rocky flick behind Rocky. It also helped that I took my teenage son, which was nostalgic for me. My dad took me to three movies (that I remember) when I was a kid: Return of the Jedi (I threw up when I saw Jabba so we missed most of it), Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Rocky IV. I still remember leaving the theater as a child and play-boxing my brothers. Then last night when I walked out of the theater with my son I felt like I had completed a fatherly milestone by taking my son to a Rocky movie."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I never saw Battlefield Earth, but I would love to see it someday. It was universally panned as the worst movie ever. The movie was micromanaged by Church of Scientology Leader David Miscavige (called DM here sometimes).
The video here shows two ex-scientologists who were very high up in the Church leadership (Marty Rathbun, former #2, and Mike Rinder, former Church Spokesman- about #4 in rank) discussing the making of Battlefield Earth. Warning, it includes some brief bad words, but is very entertaining.
They use some scientology-speak. Here are some descriptions:
DM: David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Scientology (like the President)
Tone 40: The loudest, sternest voice, usually screaming and with foul language.
McPherson Case: Lisa McPherson, under the personal guidance of David Miscavige, was audited and DM declared her Clear. After which, McPherson had a mental breakdown and died while in residence in the Church of Scientology "chapel."
JT: John Travolta,
Out-Ethics: Sins. Here Rathbun refer's to JT's "out ethics" or sins. By this, Miscavige means Travolta's alleged homosexual behavior which Rathbun won't repeat on this video. (All scientologists have a confessional every 6 months, and are hooked up to a lie detector to make sure they tell the truth. These confessional contents are supposed to be priviledged but it is commonly charged by ex-church members that the Church blackmails its parishioners with info extracted via the confessional.)
Tom: Tom Cruise
LRH: L Ron Hubbard
Int: CoS Headquarters in Hemet, CA.

The Big Short.
This movie, in a sort of documentary styled presentation, presents the discovery of the indicators by Dr. Michael Burry of the house of cards which was and probably still is the mortgage industry. It moves to Mark Baum and Brownfield's short selling using credit default swaps, but omits some of the more technical aspects of what occurred. PBS has a good show on the technical aspects of what happened. Overall, the movie is worthwhile because it depicts the events, does not really rely upon character development but shows how the ordeal was predicted. It sadly notes that nothing has been done to correct the circumstances creating the collapse. After questioning somebody who works on Wall Street, his answer was Wall Streeters are merely positioning themselves to that they won't be victims during the next crash, not to avoid one altogether."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

I think comedy must be the most difficult acting, because you look at several comedy guys in their serious roles, and they do amazing jobs: Robin Williams, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, etc.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostThe Big Short was fantastic.
To think that Steve Carell can go from The Office to probably winning an Academy award is amazing. Christian Bale was awesome as charged.
Simply mind blowing. Should be a must watch.

It might be that comedy requires amazing timing, and once you can pull that off, you have the ability to show any other range of emotions or actions.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI think comedy must be the most difficult acting, because you look at several comedy guys in their serious roles, and they do amazing jobs: Robin Williams, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, etc."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

How many times have you seen Star Wars now?Originally posted by Commando View PostI was gonna play a bit of hooky and hit a double matinee today- Star Wars and the Hateful 8.. guess I need to give the Big Short another look too.
I took my daughters after I saw it the first time, and it was better on the second viewing.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I've seen it 1.5 times. I went the first time IMAX and the whole works. The second time I went w a 3 year old who was solid for the first half then couldn't sit still anymore so I had to bounce and chill w him in the arcade for the sake of others in the group who hadn't seen it before. I was really looking forward to the lightsaber fight again, too.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostHow many times have you seen Star Wars now?
