I can't believe people are going to do this. Sounds excruciating.

    • The Intern I really liked it. Hathaway is, well, Hathaway, but De Niro cracked me up. Decent story/characters, but nothing groundbreaking. Definitely Red Box-able.

Bridge of Spies Pretty slow. I snoozed for about 15 minutes in the middle. However, I enjoyed the ending more than expected. If you wait for Netflix/Amazon Prime, I wouldn't blame you.

The Martian Solid movie. I left the theatre thinking it was $8.25 well spent.

Random comment. It bugs the crap out of me when people say a movie is worth $8 or not. Or they say, not worth $8 but worth $1 redflix. It's freaking two hours of your time. That should be hell of a lot more valuable than $8.

So are you saying that they should be paying US to watch these movies, or it bugs you that people make a distinction about how much they paid when their time is the real expenditure?

Strange pet peeve, and my comment stands. 8 and a quarter bones well spent.

I liked Martian as well. I was surprised that I found Matt Damon very likeable. It was 'Castaway' in space.

And, it was worth 13 dollars of my time

                  • I Am Big Bird - pretty interesting documentary about the guy in the suit. He's been doing Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch since the show started 40+ years ago.

Stories We Tell - documentary in part about the filmmaker's mom, in part about how everyone has a different point of view. Cool story with some twists.

These also stream on Amazon Prime.

                    • Boy - Kid in rural New Zealand comes to grips with the fact his dad, who shows up for the first time in years after being released from prison, is not as cool as he thought. Taika Waititi directed and plays the dad. Good but not great. The dad is presented as Stepbrothers-level infantile. Best part is the performance by the lead kid.

Pitch Perfect 2 - First third was actually pretty funny. Then it got a bit dull. Big show at the end was disappointing. Bad guys' performance was better. Lots of cameos, best of which was the Green Bay Packers, at a kind of underground sing-off. Best part was Keegan-Michael Key as a record producer at whose company Anna Kendrick is an intern. Her character is as lame as in the first. Hailee Steinfeld, great in True Grit, is not so good in this. Elizabeth Banks' directorial debut. Seemed a bit too fussy some times.

Love & Mercy - Brian Wilson biopic switching between Paul Dano as 1960s Wilson and John Cusack as 1980s Wilson. Pretty good. A bit too long. Curious as to how much it sugarcoated Wilson, for whom personality flaws are merely hinted at a couple times. Per the movie, he was a genius and a great guy who had the bad luck to suffer from mental illness that was exacerbated by his evil shrink -- studio musicians all loved him, etc. I would recommend it, though I wouldn't tell anyone to run out immediately to see it.
