I saw The Last Days on Mars. If you are into zombie martians movies then there is a remote chance you might like this movie. Otherwise don't waste 98 minutes on this one and watch the classical Alien movie (again) instead. The both have the same plot.

Noah. Good film, definitely not great. If I had to explain it in two words I'd say "irrational liberty". I think Arronofsky could have easily gotten his theme across even without the departures he took from Genesis. I did enjoy the way he showed Noah's struggle to understand the will of God. Pretty much sums up my thoughts on how TSM probably struggles with similar discourse today."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Mud - This could also go in the Amazon Prime streaming thread. A bit long. At least mildly entertaining. It was pretty surprising to see McConaughey play a role in which he was often shirtless and filthy.
Rio 2 - I fell asleep a few times (channeling Moliere) but the kids (9-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl) seemed to like it just fine. I liked the character voiced by Bruno Mars."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Good film? Really? That was my biggest criticism. The a-religious stuff didn't bother me but the film sucked. On it's own. IMO.Originally posted by Moliere View PostNoah. I nodded off twice but no sleeping. I caught the 10:05pm showing on the same day that I swam and the day after a long bike ride. I was tired so the fact I didn't fall asleep means it was at least a good flick.Originally posted by jay santos View PostPlease describe the amount you slept vs the amount you watched. Good is a low bar, just above average. It did seem a bit too hokey and I expect more from that director. It was worth the 9.50 I paid to see it.Originally posted by creekster View PostGood film? I totally loved Mud the first time I saw it. The message in it is great (the only love that doesn't wane is with blood relatives) and the story is pretty cool. I watched it again at home one night and struggled to get through the whole thing. I think I slept through the last 1/3 of the film on the second time through.Originally posted by Pelado View PostMud - This could also go in the Amazon Prime streaming thread. A bit long. Rio 2? I can't do any of the new animated stuff. Rio. Madagascar. Ice Age. Bolt. Despicable me 2. Croods. Epic. They all bore me to tears. I won't even sleep through them. I just get up and go do something else in the home. I also let MJ take the kids to those flicks."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Captain America 2.0.
Slightly entertaining, but the comic storylines have grown old even though the characters are still fun.
A couple of weeks ago, wife wanted to see, God is Not Dead.
A Christian contrivance weaving in three or four contrived storylines. How that movie made I will never know. The concept was not well executed. The final scene was especially bad.Last edited by Topper; 04-21-2014, 02:26 PM."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

A very good observation.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostSorry, it was on Redbox, not Netflix. I'm sure it is at a redbox near you.
One more thing about director Fahardi: His movies seem so real. Notice how every family in a Tyler Perry movie is a doctor, lawyer or CEO? And every family is loving and wealthy except for when the plot calls for something else? And every Tyler Perry house is immaculately clean, with a maid or two in tow. That's not Fahardi. His characters seem so emotionally real-- they aren't particularly more self aware, or better groomed, or more profound, just because they are in a movie. They are uncertain, and a little (not a lot) rash, and unassuming, and get angry in ugly ways, and show compassion in unexpected ways. And the houses in his movies seem so messy and crowded, and old, and lived in. They seem like real houses that I've been to."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
