I just saw this too. I can't say I enjoyed it. I was disappointed by a number of things.

    1. This movie was supposed to be good, as per rotten tomatoes, and instead it was profane, violent, bleak, and dull to watch.
    2. The violence and profanity really outweighed every other potential redeeming thing in the movie (plot, dialogue, comic relief, etc), and was therefore really exploitive in my opinion. Tarantino knows how to make a violent movie watchable and even redeemable. This guy didn't.
    3. I can't stand to see Ray Liotta in a mob movie as a pussycat.

On the positive side, the card game heist was extremely suspenseful. It really had my heart pounding.

I've found that Red Box audiences are the pickiest ever. I mean ever. Movies that get okay reviews elsewhere are skewered on Red Box. They rated this movie a 1 of 4.

Has anyone seen The Book of Luke? The KSL movie show loved this movie.

I saw this in the theatre with my home teaching companion. As we left we looked at each other and said "boy that was a shitty movie". Also no fewer than 6 people walked out of the theatre

        • Took the older boys to 42 last night. I really enjoyed it. I thought it played a good balance between pulling your heart strings and telling a story. Harrison Ford was great, but damn Han Solo is old.

          • I saw 42 this weekend as well. I felt like the first 30-35 minutes were pretty slow, they spent that time explaining quite a bit about baseball and the way things work. I think they did this to appeal to all audiences and not just the baseball fans. For me it was already stuff I knew and nothing more than fluff, for my wife she enjoyed it and it helped her to follow the movie better. It really picked up after that and I thought it was a good movie.

One particular scene when he is in the tunnel under the dugout is very powerful, they also mixed in some humor which was much needed. I always wonder when watching movies like that how the families of the villains feel about the portrayal of their loved ones. For example the Phillies manager Don Chapman is portrayed as one of the more racist characters on film I have ever seen. Also several Dodger players were also portrayed in a negative light. I always wonder what type of backlash if any the makers of these movies get.

Dave Grohl's directorial debut about the famed music studio.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

We were thinking of renting this the other night. Is it worth the $3.99 to stream? Or should I wait until it is free on Netflix?

Wait? IDK. I thought it was really enjoyable and it's endearing to watch Grohl geek out, but I can't remember the last time I paid money to see a documentary. Those should just be free, right? ha.

It's not just Redbox. Audiences in general hated this movie. It's one of only 8 movies ever to get an 'F' rating on those Cinemascore polls they do opening weekend. I actually loved the movie and put on my Best of 2012 list. I thought the whole scuzzy feel of the movie was fantastic and the heist scene at the beginning was (as mentioned earlier in this thread) top notch.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

                      • I rented Killing Them Softly on Red Box. It was horrible -- dull, overly profane, violent and bleak is the right description. You're much better off watching Killing Me Softly instead.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                          Loved it.

I could see it getting some Oscar buzz. Not because it is a "great" movie, but because what the movie is about.

Harrison Ford will get a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

                          • I watched District 9 through Netflix.

I liked it a lot. Then again, I'm easily entertained.

It's done documentary style, and I just really liked the premise and how it turned out.

There's some naughty words in it and the weapons they use vaporize people in to red jelly, but scifi violence like that doesn't really bug me much.
