Watched Safety Not Guaranteed with Gidget tonight. I give it the Commando thumbs up. I absolutely loved it. And the ending was completely unexpected.

Might get my vote for most gorgeous film ever made. Every single frame of that movie is just awe-inspiring.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostWatched Days of Heaven this afternoon. Absolutely gorgeous movie. I didn't like it quite as much as Badlands or Tree of Life, but it was still better than 85% of all movies made. Malick is a genius. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Watched Oblivion last night. I was pleasantly surprised. I saw that it had gotten mediocre reviews on metacritic so u was wary. But I thought the plot was smart and the cinematography excellent. The first part of the movie dragged a bit, but still an enjoyable movie. Watch it in IMAX if you can."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Bernie. Came in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A perfect role for Jack Black."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Agreed! I was surprised by how good that movie was. Not sure why I even watched it because I knew nothing going in.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostBernie. Came in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A perfect role for Jack Black.

Pain & Gain
This is a movie with an identity crisis. The only thing this proved is that I can watch anything with Mark Wahlberg and/or the Rock. The first little bit of the movie was light and funny with little smash cuts and clever little subtitles, getting the movie going at a good clip. When the subject matter gets serious/bizarre/messed up, the movie continues to buzz along with light hearted comic relief and pratfalls. ehhh... I guess I kind of knew Michael Bay was tone deaf, but this confirms it. I REALLLY wanted this to be the movie from the trailer, but sadly it wasn't. I saw this last night. I agree that the scenery and cinematography were very beautiful. The story though seemed choppy and lethargic at times. It seemed that the director had cinematography as #1 on his list and telling the story was way down as a priority. Of course, I also fell asleep and missed the last 20 minutes, but I can't remember the last movie I watched at home that I haven't slept through.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostSnow White and the Huntsman.
What a gorgeous film. Everything is beautiful: the evil Queen, Snow White, the huntsman, the good guys, the bad guys, the scenery, the background, the overhead shots, the action. Everything except the 7 dwarves. Such a steady hand by rookie director Rupert Sanders. He must have cut his teeth on tv commercials or something.
The identical story to Mirror Mirror released earlier in the year, this movie feeds on beauty. Snow White could not have been played by any less a beauty than Kristen Stewart, she of the quivering full red lips. Charlize Theron also has an undeniable attractiveness, and she also came loaded with an interesting back story, evil as it was.
Don't think I am giving anything away when I confess that my favorite scene is the good army riding off to battle the evil queen, as they approach the castle on the beach. Yet again, gorgeous.
Two things that bugged me:
1. Snow White is travelling fast over ground, and climbs up into snow covered mountains. Where did she get that coat? No one else is dressed differently, but I guess pixies brought her the coat.
2. Holy Hannah does Kristen Stewart have huge ears that stick out. When they're covered by her hair, you dont notice, but in the scenes where her hair is pulled back into a ponytail, she looks like a jug with two large handles. Pull the hair over the ears, hair-and-makeup assistant.
Spoiler for Spoiler:Right as Duke William was honing in to kiss Snow White, I stage whispered "wrong dude." I based my scientific guess on a careful study of the extant literature of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and a review of the legend of Snow White in particular. Either that, or the fleeting thought that huntsman Chris Hemsworth was way hotter than Duke William."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I now have the answer to the "who would go pay to see that?" question I had after seeing the trailer!Originally posted by Commando View PostPain & Gain
